Fun fact about producer Bob Ezrin: when producing Peter Gabriel's first solo LP, he gaffer-taped Peter to a pole in the studio in order to get a more urgent vocal for the chest-thumping rocker "Modern Love."

Daybreak and the very late night!:

Mike, given what you do in your interest in music I recommend the podcast “Song Exploder”. The people that run the podcast get the bands in and they break down entirely how one of their single songs was made including all the pieces and the various choices and effects they hope to have.
The most recent is Semisonic’s “closing time”, the one before that was Vampire Weekend - Harmony Hall.

Still holding on as My Loudest Show (amazingly!): New Order at the Felt Forum.

Loudest. PJ Harvey at Warfield in SF. Earplugs saved me that night. Woman in front of me turned to her friend with a shocked expression after first few notes.

Son Volt outdoors one summer night in Ottawa was without a doubt the most insanely and unnecessarily loud show I've ever seen. I was smack dab in the middle of it and I loved every minute.

Noxagt in Stavanger, Norway. Noxagt is a noise rock band that includes Kjetil Bransdal who has done some stuff with Thurston Moore. I have never feared sound like that. I reached for earplugs like a crying baby reaches for his momma.

Have to take off, but thanks for the great show Michael! One of those where you could "favorite" them all.

Loudest: David Johansen Band at My Father’s Place.
Podcasts: Gilbert is the best, but I also like Conan O’Brien’s, Pivot, and Malcolm Gladwell’s Revisionist History. Best single podcast episode ever: Billy Joel on Alec Baldwin’s Here’s the Thing, which includes Alec Baldwin’s Scott Muni impression.

Dagwood:

Loudest. Neil Young and Crazy Horse. Madison WI in the early 80's. painful.

Damn, some of these loudest bands stories are so good. I forgot about seeing Cock ESP at the Terminal Bar in Minneapolis. It lasted maybe ten minutes. One of em was wearing sheet metal which had contact mikes places on it.

The Many Moods of Ben Vaughn is my podcast of choice. Also, Conan O'Brien is doing some very entertaining interviews.

Weeping Icon at St. Vitus in BK a couple of months ago was also pretty freaking loud.

MOTORHEAD AT THE RITZ, HANDS DOWN LOUDEST. I'm sorry was I shouting? It happens sometimes when I try and talk above the ringing in my head.

Like Conan’s podcast, The Office Ladies (big fan of The Office), How Did This Get Made? is also entertaining

If you’ve ever had any interest in design (of everything) 99% Invisible is great. The concept is that if the design of anything is great, that design should be or feel 99% invisible.
