Unlike any other animal that is presently alive, coelacanths have an intracranial joint behind the eyes that splits the skull in two, enabling the entire snout to swing upward when a coelacanth opens its mouth. The joint allows coelacanths to take disproportionately wide bites and, as biologist Hugo Dutel explains in this video, the joint and its corresponding muscles “[enhance] the overall bite force during the capture of prey.” Keep your fingers away from those teeth, folks. -via mentalfloss

My first trip to the dentist was when I was 10 years old and got hit in the teeth with a rock at baseball practice.

I got a "discount" tooth cleaning once where the dentist actually put his knee on the chair to gain leverage, and screamed at his assistant. I was in my 20s.

we just had a family discussion this weekend on soup/stew/chowder differences. Enlightening. Turns out the "seafood stew" I made was actually a soup, but could've been a chowder if I used actual milk instead of coconut milk. Or something like that. I dunno, tasted good, semantics aside.
