so mr. durand is playing an instrument of his own design the pan-ney along with a tenor sax. the pan-ney is a large pan flute type of instruments using acrylic glass tubes of varying lengths and diameters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19am
Mr. Pumpy:

This track has the Herbie Hancock - Headhunters sound. Like being around a pond at night...or pulling a straw threw the plastic lid of a soda cup.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20am
Mr. Pumpy:

@rich...that's what I'm hearing...and what I just went on about. Excellent!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am
Handy Haversack:

Does anyone else play a pan-ney, or has it not caught on?

Band we saw tonight had a baritone sax player. Impressive.

handy you've just volunteered for a search on the internet. good luck. please report back your findings.

I did this to myself.

Mod Mokka Matti:

Bari Sax isn't an instrument that gets a lot of exposure these days, at least on a large scale - perhaps the most prominent band that I know of that made regular use of it was Morphine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am
Handy Haversack:

@MMM, I was thinking the same thing tonight. I LOVE Morphine. I was also thinking this band tonight could have used a little kick from like uileann pipes, a la Black 47.

Or maybe ... the pan-ney!

For that matter, has anyone else employed the same or similar instruments in their repertoire, like those of the late Rahsaan Roland Kirk?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am
Handy Haversack:

Mr. Pumpy, that's a line best delivered after licking a tree's bark and sifting some soil through our fingers. "A-yup. Sleestaks comin'!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39am
Mr. Pumpy:

@Handy...definitely. That's perhaps best delivered ala Jesse Ventura in full on Predator mode. Or maybe you just need him in the wings, clutching his machine gun, and watching you with approval.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40am
Handy Haversack:

I can live with that.
  12:40am
rich:

i'm pretty sure that the choice of lines best delivered after such an action is fairly large
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41am
Mr. Pumpy:

Sniffing some rocks...using a pine cone as a suppository..."Just as I feared...Sleestak's coming!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am
Mr. Pumpy:

Rich...true. I can hear this as well, "Ever try a waffle with peanut butter?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am
Mr. Pumpy:

This song is bonkers!
Avatar 12:42am
Mod Mokka Matti:

@Handy: Morphine was really big back in my Uni years - I still have my CDs of theirs somewhere around here. I certainly played them plenty into the early morning hours on campus, working on various student projects in the design studios there.
Avatar 12:47am
Mod Mokka Matti:

The Sleestak detection methods sound similar to those employed by Yukon Cornelius in his search for the elusive vein of peppermint.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48am

Yukon Cornelius and his famous, prehensile, gold detecting tongue. The envy of many manywheres...

Avatar 1:04am
Mod Mokka Matti:

Speaking of spinning around on a stool, I was that age or younger when I got the bright idea to take a flying leap off of my late parents' stool (of the type that were common in the 70s, with the back and tubular ring foot rest) in the dayroom, next to our wall-mount telephone and Mom's little desk. As I was departing from the seat, it started revolving, and I landed onto the floor, flat on my stomach - completely knocked the wind out of me, and I thought I was either paralyzed, or dead. Never tried that again, though I did leap out of the second-story bedroom windows more than once.

Franco Twinkie:

Okay, so I've been reading a book, and not paying attention to the chat, so sue me. My first out of body experience was in San Francisco in the summer of 1966. But it's not what you think - I was eleven years old. I was with my family at a seafood restaurant and I ordered a fish dish that I hated. I was trancing out while avoiding the dreaded seafood platter. The room turned into an aquarium I was trapped in and I dropped my glass of milk onto my plate. I created a loud and embarrassing spectacle and insisted that "everything went black." Well, that explanation haunted me for years. Anytime my family found anything I said implausible they would ask did everything go black?
Avatar 1:56am
Mod Mokka Matti:

I had an extended out of body experience in Jr. High/7th grade. It was just before winter break, and I still remember seeing myself walking through the halls, to class, etc. as though it was someone else. I also had a number of episodes in band where I would be looking at my sheet music on the stand, and everything literally went black. Thankfully, I managed to remain upright, and on my chair - otherwise, a rather pricey Buffet Crampon clarinet would have been seriously hurt. My parents even took me to get an MRI or CAT scan, to see if there was anything amiss that could be detected. Test results came up negative. I've had more recent episodes, since the passing of my parents. Not sure if it's all attributable to stress, or something else undetected.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00am
Franco Twinkie:

MMM, My parents were not the type to rush us of to the doctor just because we were acting weird, unless they couldn't stop the bleeding.
Avatar 2:07am
Mod Mokka Matti:

Mine were the same for the most part. I maintain that mindset myself - likely to my own detriment.
Avatar 2:13am
Mod Mokka Matti:

And with that, I believe I'd best head out for some needed sleep. Thanks Rich, and goodnight all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14am
Franco Twinkie:

Yeah, me too. But Chresti and I just had our first visit to Kaiser - her today, me yesterday. I need to take better care of myself and her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15am
Franco Twinkie:

First thing on the list: More sleep! Good night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38am
Spinning Giant:

...up in the middle of the night for some fresh water, nibblies, and apparently some great tunes...and great chatter...though looks like I am late to the party, and everyone (but Rich, I suppose, unless there's a robot running this spectacle...?) has already toddled off to bed
...
