Hey Nulsh, doing OK, trying enjoy life's small pleasures, like listening to WFMU while eating breakfast. Not a total lock-down here in NJ but getting close. How you doing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23am
Sem:

Good morning, Shrunken Ones. Latest news is the station is down to a minimal crew, dj's are pre-recording shows at home, or depending upon the archives. SM Ken interrupted Bryce's show yesterday to announce this. It's my understanding that Jeffrey doesn't have home facilities to make radio and so this show is from the archives. Hope all is well with everyone. As a result of volunteering more than a week ago, I'm in self-imposed quarantine here in Nova Scotia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26am

FYI, I'm feeling okay and for the most part not going out. Planning on going out once a week for any errands like food shopping, pharmacy etc. I have gone out for short walks a couple of times, though I have to go out today and will observe social distancing, obviously.

Thank goodness for Shrunken Planet. Popped into the pub for a swift pint on the way home from a dog walk at about 5pm yesterday. Got a text 10 minutes later saying that all pubs were closing after yesterday. Party ensued, headache extreme.

@Nulsh Oh yes, absolutely essential with a hangover that can only be described as apocalyptic. Turns out drinking pints of 9.1% stout isn't a brilliant idea.

Good morning Jeffrey and all
@Jeffrey: Any plans for setting up a home studio?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55am
Jeffrey Davison:

@Fredericks: I tried, as best I could, to pick a show that could stand alone, without references to upcoming WFMU events, which eliminated a bunch. I tried to pick one that wasn't too recent. That'll teach me to promote the record fair and upcoming special programs! ;)

Avatar 7:01am
zivilars:

yes, it's scary how the whole thing was underestimated and every time you think that we finally got the whole dimension of what the virus means, the next day / weekend tells you something different ... (at least my experience)

Avatar 7:08am
Fredericks:

Ah, so you listened to a bunch of them. I assum you listened, unless you can recall what you said during each show. (doubtful) Or listened to the intros/endings and set breaks. (more likely)
Avatar 7:09am
TDK60:

Ruth, you weren't mentioned in the list of illustrious Skeletons yesterday by Ken, but glad you're there too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10am
Jeffrey Davison:

@zivilars: I'm sorry to hear that...have not checked the news since last evening and didn't hear that
@fred: It's not easy listening to my mic breaks! The music is good, though.
@testingwithfire: hadn't thought of it from exactly that angle, and that's a disturbing thought. The federal government seemed paralyzed and some of that lingers. In New York both Cuomo and DeBlasio have had to take bold steps without any guidance, and leadership is severely lacking from the White House. Leaving aside politics, all you have to do is listen to the public statements and it's obvious.
Avatar 7:12am

And yes, agreed, this station is a beacon.

correct me if i am wrong, here, but, all over the world, it seems like most everyone here is just kinda waiting for "the other shoe to drop" - in the sense that everyone is isolated, but nothing untoward has happened - and, if so: this is a good thing. So FAR
  8:39am
clarke:

and i don't mean to imply that folks 'anticipate' bad things. just that not much bad has happened, so far.

At least in the USA, NYC (where I am) is the center of the outbreak, for now. I'm guessing it's just due to a high population.

steve gunn would like that, i think, zoot!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42am
Jeffrey Davison:

clarke: partly true, I think. A lot of bad has happened. China and South Korea took drastic measures and are doing well. In the rest of the world, we didn't act quickly or decisively enough, and so the virus is spreading rapidly and we face severe consequences

I do fear that the US will turn out to be the least prepared. We have had our collective head in the sand for too long. Hopefully when this is over our economy and culture will change toward the local and less materialistic.

I am not against universal health care, but I don't feel like it will solve much either. Everything about our medical industry is broken and Medicare and Medicaid are a mess too.

Medical systems in Canada, Cuba, Norway, etc. are far superior to the US /because/ they have national health systems.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53am
Jeffrey Davison:

ottovonbqe: that's the point...it's a patched-together system, at odds with itself. There is no real order. The hospitals do not know where to turn to to obtain masks, gloves, gowns, etc. They're running out and there isn't a clear set of rules for everyone in this country. A huge subject that we're only just touching on. Food and laughter are medicine, but when people really get sick as they're doing now in record numbers, the hospitals need supplies and can't get them, and people can't get tested and the information they're getting is late, incomplete, and often contradictory.

clarke and allanToronto: there isn't a perfect system, but the American one is very far from perfect, though there are many dedicated doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel. Complacency is a factor, but most Americans favor a better system but have been denied by Congress and others.
