@4:12 DJ GeorgyGirl: whaaaaat? Haven't you heard The Renegades version? It is titled simply Cadillac. Much slower, and more loud-quiet tension/dynamics. Their version of 13 women KILLS. They really were "our own" Beatles in terms of teenage hysteria
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Photocopy - the name is familiar ... no doubt I'll find it on my hard drive and realise I *do* know them ;-)
  4:19pm

Is it the same song? I know that Renegades one I gotta co compare now..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm

It feels so different! I'm not really a lyrics person so I never noticed they were the same

welcome djCher! This song (A Picture Of You) is on one of the first (if not the first) BBC sessions Beatles made, at least the copy I have is definitively from some private off-air tape, I guess keeping a recording from some Liverpool unknowns was not the top priority of BBC back then.

I have wasted so many hours of my life with the Beatles' bibles of Mark Lewisohn that I even know Ringo Starr was spending his unemployment days looking for work by wandering around in the company of a DIY chip butty - you know, he gutted a bread and threw the chips in; I mean, shouldn't the chips be baked into the bread? I have yet to taste this beauty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm

chickens, however, do NOT have lips
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm

@Linda Lee - they have pretty gross feet ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm
StringOFperils:

Passerines are birds that, like the House Sparrow, have three toes forward, one backward, e.g. when sitting on a perch, non-passerines don't. As a rule of thumb, songbirds are passerines, others are not. ... These are often called "suboscines" (where true passerines are "oscines") or also "semi-passerines".

@5:06 DJ GeorgyGirl: another fun beatles fact mr. Lewisohn told me in his book; when Buddy Holly played Liverpool, none of them attended, but played a small private party/youth club instead (as Johnny & the Moondogs or Quarrymen, can't remember), even if the Buddy Holly tickets were not expensive - and the show was not apparently sold out. When Eddie Cochran played Liverpool, only George Harrison attended.

I have read that small combos in general evolved out of the inability for the front persons/band leaders, the 'names', to pay or hire large dance bands during WWII, because the payroll became impossible and things collapsed into small units, and stayed that way, The band leader, however, remained on the marquee. Could be that, in part.

that seems right.
