I've been trying to think why the 7:00pm clap/hooting/pan banging reminds me of the movie 1984. Then I realized, it's very much like "Two Minutes Hate." Sure it's people "supporting essential workers" but is it really helping them? Why not support better pay for essential workers? It seems more like people letting out their frustrations against the invisible enemy in this war with covid

Also, will say I think “Frankenstein” and “Bride of Frankenstein” are two great films whose message is… “If you just build things to build things you will screw up in the end…”

Frankenstein was given life and — at his heart — decent creature but was never guided and instantly feared.

Also the bride of Frankenstein was given life to be Frankie’s girlfriend… She comes to life, looks at him and just screams. Built with good intentions but when she’s given life, she does not behave as expected.

Frankenstein fans can watch the live action National Theatre version streaming for free for a few more days. This is with Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnnie Lee Miller (both Sherlocks in other media) swap off as the creator and creature.

@Handy Love the movie, had to get used to the minimalizing of the plot, knowing the book. But it's an entrancing movie.

“Colossus: The Forbin Project” (1970), from the novel “Colossus” by Dennis Feltham Jones, is an often overlooked little gem of a film that I would call a MUST SEE for Mark Hurst. It smartly depicts an accidental AI takeover scenario, AS it might have happened in that period. A surprisingly satisfying film about a subject that’s (almost) always dealt with in unsatisfying ways.

Also, “The Invisible Man” is another tech tragedy: A scientist creates a way to be invisible… And it works! But then he can’t reverse the effects… So he is not a bad person, but is trapped… And the longer time he spends being invisible, the crazier he becomes. So he’s a victim of his own success and loses his basic humanity disappears over time…
