It's actually cool up here, in the 60s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm

Classic mix Larry

Thanks Matt, cheered me up no end!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
Funky16Corners:

Yeah, this collection is essential
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
Jeff Ash:

BOOM! Great start with a Tom Moulton mix! Fun fact: Back in the heyday of mashups, there was tremendous mashup of "Back Stabbers" and ... believe it or not ... Britney Spears' "Hit Me Baby One More Time."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
Funky16Corners:

I have the 1970s vinyl issue, and the expanded CD box set
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
Funky16Corners:

@Jeff - I'll have to look for that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm

Hi Larry, this is a GREAT opener.

There should be a statue of Tom Moulton somewhere.

A Neville a day keeps the blues away.

If a Scoville is a measure of heat, then surely a Neville is a measure of soul.

Thanks to Jeff who suggested this and passed it on to me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm
Funky16Corners:

Thanks Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm
Jeff Ash:

This is really the last vestige of Styx being a regional band out of Chicago. Once they broke nationally, they left covers behind.
Avatar 3:23pm
Erica:

Styx before Babe and Mr. Robotic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
Funky16Corners:

I can't recall is this is before Lady became a hit (I think Lady came out before Lies)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
Funky16Corners:

Happy Birthday Paul!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm
Jeff Ash:

Yep, Erica. Some of us who knew of Styx before they hit it big prefer the earlier stuff. Big prog influence. Yes, Larry, "Lady" came first.
Avatar 3:25pm
Erica:

Paul Mccartney Larry?

Happy birthday Macca!

@Dean, he has indeed!

@Brian - It was also recorded by the Knickerbockers

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
Funky16Corners:

This Brenda Lee 45 was recorded in the UK with Jimmy Page on guitar
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
Matt from New Orleans:

@Larry Did you ever play on the same bill as either these guys or the Kings?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm
Funky16Corners:

No. We knew people in both bands but never had the opportunity to play with them. The Tryfles were broken up before we formed and the Chesterfield Kings were kind of out of our league
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
Funky16Corners:

We were kind of a second-wave band, and most of the bands we played with were also. We never got to play with the Fuzztones, or the Vipers, but played with the Secret Service a bunch of times
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
Hopey Sockmonkey:

Oh, good choice from Outlandos.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
Funky16Corners:

I love the early Police stuff
Avatar 3:48pm
Erica:

Which Secret Service Larry?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
Funky16Corners:

The one based in Long Island, played UK-R&B stuff
Avatar 3:51pm
Erica:

Oh because there was another band from Sweden that played New Wave music during the 80s
Avatar 3:51pm

That had the same name.

I notice the CD version is not listed on Discogs. Don’t have it down here with me. Just the digital files.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm
Funky16Corners:

I wish Sundazed had expanded on their Sansu comp with more New Orleans comps. They really did the best job.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
Matt from New Orleans:

That’s a good one. Me too. I’m always up for more reissues especially for unreleased sessions from down here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm

Proof again that Gladys Knight was badass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm

I suspect that dude who ended up with Allen’s master tapes won’t be making them available for cheap.

Brian in UK:

Larry, listening to FMU shows playing music from the Sixties has made me realise how little we got over here compared to yourselves. It was the British Invasion and a lot bands covering American hits over here so never heard the originals. (The Originals being an early version of Spinal Tarp)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
Little Danny:

Thanks Matt, it's nice to be missed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm
Funky16Corners:

@Brian - I can imagine that happened quite a lot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm
Little Danny:

This is gorgeous, this Silver Eagle 45. New to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm
Funky16Corners:

It was released under a couple of different names (same group). Also as John, Jeffrey and Brother Tom
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm
Funky16Corners:

This is a great album, too. I think it's the only album where he plays electric piano.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm
Little Danny:

I'm wholly unfamiliar with his music after the early '60s. This is very cool yet unmistakably Mose.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm
Funky16Corners:

@Matt - I think Geoffrey Meyers went on to replace one of the members in Spanky and Our Gang
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm
Funky16Corners:

The album is called 'Western Man'. It's not as common as some of his other albums but well worth grabbing

Brian in UK:

A little truth would be a start.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I saw Elizabeth Cotten in my youth. Around 83/84. It was impressive to see someone so old still play the guitar and sing well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm
Funky16Corners:

Wow!
