Clicked what, TDK60?
Avatar 12:11pm

Irene, the Love song. I'm not an I-have-to-click-a-lot-of-tunes kind of guy but not "favoriting" You Set The Scene? I am merely tardy, is my defense.

TDK60: Forever Changes is one of my favorites—found for $1 at a library sale in Longview Washington in the mid-80s when i was a teen. I had NO CLUE what it was, but i couldn't stop listening.

Hi gongoleer! It's about that hot here in NYC. doctorjazz, I met Volker Goetze backstage at a Randy Weston concert several years ago and he turned me on to this lovely work he was doing with Cissoko and others.

@ Irene. Did you get to hear Ackerman's group, The Flow? Love this guitar work I'm hearing now on the program.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm

Frisell changed guitar playing, such a unique style. Watched his documentary a while back (think it was on Netflix), such a humble soul...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm
doctorjazz:

Added the Goetz to my cart...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm
Irene Trudel:

No, gongoleer, I'd had so many distractions durting the wee I just plain forgot. I'll try to make a point to seek it out. @doctorjazz, I didn't know about the Frisell documentary. As you might tell, I'm a big fan. Over the years I've had a few chances to help record him for New Sounds/Soundcheck. A sweet man but not a gret interview subject. He's a bit shy.
Avatar 1:34pm
TDK60:

Got to see Salif K. in Central Park several years back.
Avatar 1:36pm

@Irene. No sweat. Whenever. Living in NYC it's easy to get distracted. I know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm
Irene Trudel:

Salif Keita is an amazing, riveting performer. What a voice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm
doctorjazz:

It's true, he's a clumsy interview subject. But the documentary did have enough of him playing to make it worth watching (my problem with most music docs is that they don't have enough music in them).
Here's a link...i I believe it is still on Netflix, also Amazon Prime

Great show, as ever, Irene! We've got to head out for a bit, so will miss the last hour live but are looking forward to hearing the entire show a second time on the archive! Thank you! Sending love!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm
Irene Trudel:

Yeah, that's a big complaint of mine too, doctorjazz. One of my favorite shows that I helped record was his trip live to films Bill Morrison created out of found footage. Morrison used Frisell's music to assemble the films, and felt that it worked best to use the same music instead of creating a new soundtrack.
Avatar 2:04pm
gongoleer:

I too heard him in 1969 or 70 and think it was same venue. Down a few steps across street from Cafe Figaro. Maybe TDK60 & I were in same audience. TDK60 do you recall Charles John Quarto? He also played there.
Avatar 2:07pm
gongoleer:

Might have been Cafe Wha! Memory is somewhat foggy.
Avatar 2:08pm
TDK60:

Gongoleer, How about that? I don't recall C.J.Q. I saw many shows in the Cafe A.G.G., all incredible. Yet I never went to the Figaro. The Cafe A.G.G. was right across the street from The Bitter End which is still there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm
Irene Trudel:

Thanks Summer and Michael and Sylvia. Stay cool! TDK60 and gongoleer, I've been listening to Louden since the "Dead Skunk" days, and I really enjoy his live shows.
Avatar 2:14pm
TDK60:

And Cafe Wha is still there but it's on MacDougal. Bitter End on Bleecker.
Avatar 2:15pm
gongoleer:

TDK60. Now you've jogged my memory. It was Cafe Wha across street from Cafe Figaro( a Lebanese owned venue) om McDougal where I saw Loudon & CJQ. Check him out. Mostly a poet and wrote back liner poem for Stephen Stills's album with Stephen on cover. Don't recall the name right now. Irene, Dead Skunk is what Loudon performed night I heard him. Ahhh the good ole days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm
Irene Trudel:

I still have a 45 of Dead Skunk from my high school radio days.
Avatar 2:22pm
gongoleer:

You must have quite a collection of music. Like me I hardly discard anything recorded. I still have many boxes of cassettes and of course 45's, lip's and even 78's. Well, I did once own a record store too.
