I found out about Mitchum's calypso album at the same time I found out that my grandfather and two of his friends briefly owned a nightclub in San Pedro Sula, Honduras (late 50s), and that on opening night the three of them lip-synced in drag (coconut bras, grass skirts) to a song from the album. I was like "Mom, hold on a sec please. You're telling me Grandpa performed in drag? And followup: Robert Mitchum had a calypso album?!" There's a Robert Mitchum flick from the 70s, "The Friends of Eddie Coyle." There's a scene at the beginning where he's telling a younger guy about how someone broke his fingers by putting them in a drawer and kicking it shut. Real masterclass in tough-guy storytelling.
