Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Hellraiser 2024 Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
Frank In Queens:

I'm not a total gearhead, but I'm pretty sure that an active bass has a built-in battery powered pre-amp which gives the instrument a much "bigger" sound. It makes it easier to get a full sound when only "tapping" the strings instead of plucking them. I'm personally not a fan of the sound of active basses.
Avatar 12:30pm

Active pickups require a 9 volt battery to generate a magnetic field. Passive magnets, like a stray pickup, are always “on”

To me it depends on the song. Sometimes pick, sometimes fingers.

That reaction to change - exactly what Declan said about RubberSoul.

YES! I always felt like "Man Out of Time" was bookended by an early Pavement song.

@Michael, I must disagree! I agree that the music of the Police is not as varied, but the actual drumming... no way! Show me elements of african grooves, afro-caribbean, and all that crazy cymbal/hi-hat play... Stewart was way more original.
