Tip of the hat to Ruth. Is the program live or Memorex, Jeffrey?

Oww, how sad to hear about Toots Hibbert. Had the great pleasure to see him and the Maytals perform in a venue 200 yards from my place some five years back.. May he rest in Reggae heaven.

Still sad about Bill Kelly's departure although Suzy does a damn fine rock/punk show, too ... Wish I could have them both on WFMU

zivilars:

wow, the "wildcard" show with rotating guest DJs happens ... I'm excited, thinking that this is a great idea!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09am
Jeffrey Davison:

I don't know how the decisions are made about what shows to keep and what ones are judged expendable for any current schedule. Of course, Bill Kelly's show is amazing. Jeff Conklin's show was one of my favorites, as you listeners probably already know. Double Dip Recess seemed a newly minted classic, so sorry to see that show off the schedule for now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11am
Jeffrey Davison:

Daniel Blumin's show, also...one of the deepest and most intriguing shows on this station, hosted by one of the most knowledgeable people on the staff as well.
Avatar 7:13am
zivilars:

Bill Kelly was a special case because of COVID, I think – as he had the virus he wasn't allowed to come back to the studio, but he couldn't/wouldn't broadcast from home either and now it seems as if he won't come back at all – a real shame, "Teenage Wasteland" was one of my very favourite shows and introduced me to WFMU ... But well - thing change, I guess. At least, Suzy also does an AMAZING show, but there would be room for both, of course.
Avatar 7:14am
zivilars:

Re-subscribed to Sirius XM from Germany (with a lot of "illegal" tricks just to be able to give them my money) only to be able to still listen to Bill's other show on the Underground Garage
  7:16am
Listener Bop Monroe:

greetings from sunrise-y Tannersville DJ JD.
nice and contemplative undulating tones for my toast and tea!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18am
Jeffrey Davison:

Suzy Hotrod...great show, and a lovely person too. I don't know all the details regarding Bill Kelly, and certainly broadcasting from home isn't so much fun, but just fyi, none of the DJs who are not part of paid staff are allowed back in the building at 43 Montgomery. Kelly wasn't singled out in this regard. It was deemed too difficult a task to keep the building clean with a hundred people a week coming and going, even if we didn't have live sessions with musicians or other guests.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18am
Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Bop Monroe, and thanks!
zivilars, you sly dog, you.
Avatar 7:21am
zivilars:

@Jeffrey: Yeah, I don't know the exact details around the end of "Teenage Wasteland", of course – all I know for sure is that the COVID situation had something to do with it, and for that alone you already have to hate this virus :(
Avatar 7:22am
zivilars:

But good things go and other good things come ... And who knows, maybe there still will be a Teenage Wasteland comeback next year or so ... I'll keep on hoping.
Avatar 7:23am
zivilars:

I archived all the old shows on my hard drive, so even if the apocalypse eats the WFMU online archive, I'm safe :)
  7:23am
Listener Bop Monroe:

i used to love when he'd read stories from the Weekly World News.

little context if I may: this track, eleven:eleven, was composed for one of The Dark Outside special broadcasts. It usually takes place in a forest in the UK, but had to go online under covid, www.darkoutside.co.uk Next Dark Outside will air on Sept 26th, within the Aerial Festival aerialfestival.com
Avatar 7:47am
Sylvia (France-NYC):

The Dark Outside concept: a 24h broadcast of never-heard before music and sounds. No reruns, no archives, and you have to be within range of the FM signal (no streaming!). Anybody can send tracks. Famous, non famous, under the name of your choice. It's been very fun listening to it online, and so many artists to discover
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49am
Jeffrey Davison:

Sylvia, thanks for the information. The Dark Outside thing sounds fascinating. Very not-21st Century.

ignatatus666:

I’m hurt!!
No more Double Dip recess. The only family show on FMU unless you consider the old Codger family fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05am
Jeffrey Davison:

Thanks melinda. For sure Daniel will be back. That's such a great show.
Ignatatus666, I'm with you. As I said earlier, DDR seemed like an instant classic here on WFMU. Lots of people missed Bob Brainen, however. A show for kids does seem like something that we ought to have, though, no doubt.
  8:08am
ignatatus666:

And I forgot to wish Daniel well!! I feel like a crumb :( but I was at work hustling and enjoying the music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10am

ignatatus666, drop Daniel an email through his playlist pages.
  8:13am
ignatatus666:

Will do that
Thank you
  8:16am
P-90:

If I may: When I saw DDR on hiatus on the new schedule, my first thought was that since Amanda has been absent due to her long COVID recovery, DDR wasn’t really running at full strength anyway, and that may have figured into the decision to give DDR a break, and thereby also take the opportunity to give a nod to those clamoring for Brainen to take another turn.
  8:16am
P-90:

Just a thought. Hi Jeffrey.
  8:22am
P-90:

“It’s Memorex, Baby!” could be a hot catchphrase for the quarantine generation...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22am
Jeffrey Davison:

P-90, I suppose it's a possibility, for sure, but once a show has a head of steam, it seems like a good idea to let it run, to continue to build an audience. As I said earlier, I'm not privy to these decisions, and they can't be easy ones to make.
And re: Memorex, it will mean nothing to many!
