We didn't really have that whole Disco Sucks thing much in the UK. It lived alongside Punk quite happily most of the time. Watching Top of the Pops in those days was a smorgasbord of craziness.

Nile Rodgers, producer and guitarist for the disco-era band Chic, likened the event to Nazi book burning. Gloria Gaynor, who had a huge disco hit with "I Will Survive", stated, "I've always believed it was an economic decision—an idea created by someone whose economic bottom line was being adversely affected by the popularity of disco music. So they got a mob mentality going." Harry Wayne Casey, singer for the disco act KC and the Sunshine Band, did not believe Disco Demolition Night was discriminatory, and felt that Dahl was simply an "idiot".

the phrase very definitely was not racist or homophobic in my world. the hatred for it was for the culture of apathy and self-indulgence, and for the relative "shallowness" of the music itself.

Jeff Moore:
Hearing that swingin' treatment of the Perry Mason theme reminds me: did you watch the new noir Tiny Toons Perry Mason on HBO? It was pretty good, definitely good enough to recommend.
Germane to this playlist, though – I really enjoyed it when licks from the original Perry Mason theme began peeking through into the music (I believe starting after our pal Perry began to get into lawyering). And there was a gritty swing to the tune.
Jeff Moore:
This post has excerpts from the whole set of soundtrack music.
The End Credits music undergoes transitions as the series progresses; in "End Credits - Perry Mason - Chapter 8" you hear the original show's theme now coming through unequivocally.
