"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Two of our cats will eat any human food they can get at. Nothing gets left out in this apartment. Voltron once broke all of our bowls. And Callipygian is down to maybe three teeth, so there's plenty of drooling, esp. when she shakes her head around because her extreme ear wax bothers her. So ... while there might be a *little* more dignity on the cat side, nothing is pure.

Ripeness is all.

My CD collection is a total mess. Because it's well over 5k discs and lives half in corrugated cardboard boxes (ones still in jewel boxes) and half in banker's boxes (transferred to sleeves). I have half a mind to toss the whole lot out.

I started seriously asking myself: "Am I ever going to play this again?" and not just "Is this collectible?". It was liberating. And if you get rid of 3/4 of your records (or books) and only keep the top 25%, then you are left with a really top-notch collection ... and some space on your shelf for new records.

@Yeti Bob: I can relate. My most recent move to a smaller space with fewer closets to squirrel away boxes prompted me to cull many items. I donated quite a bit to WFMU and to the Vietnam Vets.

Yes... culling the herd of many promo CDs and keeping essentials is great, the rest is digital and backed up, with a lot of vinyl but that's also essential these days for room, I went through a period of buying every Thrill Jockey and International Anthem on vinyl.. no room!

Thanks, morphe!!! You share a birthday with my brother-in-law. He turns 74. My sibs are in their 60s and 70s. I'm a caboose baby, youngest of five after a gap of seven years. That and having older parents helped give me historical perspective on culture and what not.
