Greetings! Any crossword puzzlers out there? Wanna take a stab at solving the show title, and therefore the tempo markings of tonight's pieces?

Con _ _ _ _ (with animation, musically)

Con brio
Avatar 8:09pm
Bethany Ryker:

Good guess, Rynac! That was mine, too, turns out it's not what the Times chose for an answer.

Con spirito?

Con passione?
  8:11pm
bunyan:

I will disqualify myself, since I saw the movement indication for the Roentgen-Maier piece before you revised it...

"Con brio", which the Flying Karamazov Brothers translated as "with scouring pads"...

Jeff Moore:

...or are there explicitly four letters?

Con MOTO

hi Bethany and Stochasticats

Composers "not heard that often" is kinda the hallmark of A440/SHP. Certainly the big reason I "tune" in... (do all that many people use tuning knobs anymore?)

Arriaga, the "Iberian Mozart"!

This is the sort of stuff they only play on WQXR at three in the morning.

Excellent. Greetings on this dark and drizzly night.

@Bethany one thing i have learned about this weird wonderful station is that the DJs know their music and the accu a lot of the chatters are pretty damn knowledgeable about things
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm
Michael 98145:

= The Italian musical term animato is an indication to play in an animated manner, to play with excitement and spirit, literally “animated.” =
  8:42pm
WFMU listener john:

@Richard S they are owned by WNYC
Avatar 8:48pm
slugluv1313:

@Richard S., @WFMU listener John -- right?
i grew up listening to the "old" WQXR ("The Radio Station of The New York Times") thanks to my Mom -- but it is so weird and different these days, and not in a good way :(
  8:48pm
Billy:

CON AGRA?
  8:49pm
WFMU listener john:

@slugluv1313 what do you mean not in a good way?
Avatar 8:51pm
Bethany Ryker:

@Billy - growing up in Omaha, NE (onetime giant HQ for Con Agra) you really made me laugh with that
Avatar 8:54pm
slugluv1313:

@WFMU listener John -- it seems that they play "popular" Classical music -- i remember there being a more eclectic mix back in the *old days* -- of sure i am sure they had programming, but it seemed less predictable (if that makes any sense?)
Avatar 8:55pm
Bethany Ryker:

Just putting this out there, it's a complex matrix with public radio and 'classical music'. I believe it's all well intentioned. I would never say an ill word about another station. What I will say, is that the FREEFORM FREEDOM at WFMU is like nothing else. It's beyond amazing to be able to program shows like these. I'm glad it resonates...

Another remarkable playlist Bethany! Thank you so much.
  8:58pm
bunyan:

Many of the public radio stations that played classical music went that way, too, along in the '90s, playing a larger proportion of shorter works (or isolated movements), less adventurous selection of composers, more chatter... Fortunately, Internet "radio" permits one to roam around and explore a variety of stations around the world that didn't go that way...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm
coelacanth∅:

Thanks Bethany! have a good night
  8:59pm
P-90:

Yes, for decades there has been a kind of “Classical Top Forty” playlist that most stations largely stick to, except for “specialty” programs around the edges.
Avatar 8:59pm

Thanks, Bethany! Sometimes the best way to explain the musical term is with examples.
  9:00pm
P-90:

Is there a “con mojo”, i.e. “with a bluesy feel”? Just wondering...
  9:00pm
bunyan:

Thanks for including the "spans" of the composers now.

And thanks once more for works that are "all over the map"!
