Thanks TDK60,
Hey Toothgrinder Tom9:48am : Confess - steeped in the 1st legendary Bloomfield album (transatlantic juxtaposition to Mayall-Clapton Beano, if you will)
- but not yet aware of that Monkees connection !9:48am : It's also Wren Day.9:50am : ..also first day of Kwanzaa.🥁 9:50am : I got into the first 4 Who LP's via those two-fer reissues. It created confusion that took me awhile to figure out.9:51am : morning BB! One of the few high points of 2020 (and there are very. very, very, few) was your return to WFMU airwaves. Thanks for the music!9:52am : I agree, CalZone!9:52am : Gotta LoVe WFMU!9:52am : Revrab, what do you mean by 1st Bloomfield? 1st Paul Butterfield Blues Band LP?🥁 9:52am : Seriously, I agree with CalZone.9:53am : Jeff, that's high praise! Rev. interesting.
Wren Day, Kwaanza, all good!
CalZone! & Jeff, I really appreciate that.
PaulRobeson1920, AMEN!9:54am : Bloomfield greatest white blues guitar player.
San Francisco misses him. The Flag too.9:55am : Yes, always good to hear your show, Bob! A definite bright spot.9:55am : Can’t argue with Robert Johnson. King of the Delta Blues!9:55am : New Bloomfield bio.Good read.9:57am : Robert Johnson, I dig quite a few but Bloomers and Peter Green have to top the list.
Ah thanks Irene, back atcha!
Zoot, is that the 2nd Bloomfield bio?9:57am : Me @ length re Who's 1st album :
m.facebook.com...9:59am : Bob, I think Guitar King is the 3rd Bloomfield bio, but it’s the best (IMO).10:00am : Ya got something cooking on the radio too
We love it10:01am : Yeah Guitar King is the one.10:02am : East West. Enough said. And Elvin and Mark and Butter. OMG10:02am : Irene:no more show?10:03am : Hey Bob-- is it me or are your talk levels extremely low?10:04am : Irene that would be Bob!10:05am : He’s not Scott Muni,10:06am : Zoot, thanks for asking. I moved over to the Give the Drummer Radio stream, hosting a weekly show on Mondays at noon. BTW, I'm filling in on the stream tonight 7-9pm. Click on "Pop-up" at the top of the playlist to listen in: wfmu.org...10:06am : Jeffrey Davidson’s voice was low too.10:07am : Irene, that's something that I have a technical issue with, but it doesn't sound lower to me, but I'll always defer to you.10:10am : I have a very technical solution -- when Bob speaks I turn it up, back down when the music resumes.
I love the show!🥁 10:10am : RIP Stanley Cowell. We lost Jymie Merritt in the last few years as well.10:11am : I think the whole show is low compared with other stations on the dial. I'm going to call the studio elves to see if they can help.10:12am : Loose wire somewhere10:12am : Good morning, Bob and friends.10:14am : TDK I meant 1st Butterfield, pardon.10:15am : We had some damage from the storm that didn't help things.
Hey Wendy del Formaggio10:16am : It ALL sounds good to me!10:17am : Lo Fi recordings10:17am : What Jeff said. Yeah!10:17am : Gotcha, Revrabbit. I do wonder if the 1st P.B.B. LP was Bloomfield's initial recording. He was on Highway 61 by Bob around the same time, not sure which session was first.10:19am : Just love the Lush version of this song. And this one!10:19am : Like the avian flavor.10:19am : I think I saw Katie Kissoon sing with Clapton. Does that make any sense?10:20am : this song should be dedicated to yerfriendPaul, he'll know why!10:21am : @ Jeff - yes with Eric for many years.10:21am : Slade straight up jacked that last song!10:21am : I think Mike did an album for Columbia and John Hammond prior to playing with Dylan or Butter (although, it might not have been released).10:23am : TDK60, I think Hank Ratchel (sp?) was Bloomers debut, but...it could have come out archivally? Not sure. He also had sides on his won but, again, not sure if they were released when they were recorded.
Mac & Katie sang backgrounds a lot Jeff.10:24am : I turn on all of the wfmu streams all at once sometimes...10:24am : Dylan basically took the Butterfield band to Go Electric before he got The Band - though it's shocking how little I know about who's on these Dylan albums that matter as much as anything!10:24am : I TOTALLY AGREE ABOUT EVERYTHING BAGELS!10:24am : hi10:24am : That's so right about the bagels and a lot of other things.10:25am : Yank Rachell (I think)10:25am : "I like Roky. but I don't like an everything bagel." I'm good now!10:25am : I'm more of a pumpernickel bagel w/ sesame seeds type of guy....10:25am : Oh, and glad WMFU is back on this morning. Good job getting Mt. Hope online again, people.10:26am : Jeff - Bloomfield did record for Columbia prior to Dylan, and some of those tunes are on that Bloomfield Anthology that Columbia put out.10:26am : @Irene- the signal might sound quiet or slightly weaker compared to other stations on the dial because we're on our backup stream right now due to the Xmas eve storm10:27am : We buy the good bagels when we're in Kansas City and freeze them. The Mrs. likes everything bagels. When we share one of those, I take the bottom.10:27am : Thanks Doc!10:27am : ...whereas when Roky went Electric - we're talking more like actual voltage to the brain...10:28am : Thanks Doc Rock; never heard of that anthology.10:29am : There are a lot of Michael Bloomfield albums10:29am : I turn down raisin bagels every time. Pumpernickel is okay.10:29am : I could go for a hot bialy!10:30am : The "everything bagel" problem also exists with superhero media. Just because a merged media company owns a slough of comic book characters and therefore has the right to mix them doesn't mean they should.
Case in point, the recent "Shazam!" movie. Just because Captain Marvel and Superman are co-owned doesn't mean they should co-exist. It diminishes the impact of Captain Marvel to have Superman exist as a real thing in his world. It'd be much more fun if Superman existed only as a fictional character in Capt. Marvel's world.10:31am : Ah, thanks for the update, Darren!10:31am : Great set Bob. Listening from the hinterlands of southcentral OH.10:32am : Once again “What Jeff said.”🥁 10:33am : The Mustard Family?10:34am : There was a place on Coney Island Ave that made the best bialys. It’s gone now (like almost everything else).10:35am : Bialys are easy to make at home10:35am : They make an interesting contrast - that Superman has rivals in strength & power - & his weakness is Magick - which Marvel is all about... So it comes down to them as People : Kal-El Clark & Billy... & GreenLantern is in ways as powerful as Supes....
They form a Qabballah : Supes Solar, Bats Lunar, Diana Venus, Flash Mercury...10:36am : Hey Uncle Michael, Listener Robert, northguineahills,
Thanks litmus0001,
Wm. yes!
Bialys rule!10:36am : Zoot, really? Flour, water, onions? It’s gotta be NYC water!10:37am : Was that the 1st Qaballah LP, Revrab?10:37am : listener Robert & Rev-you guys make me think of Jerry & George on Seinfeld with that thread!10:37am : Jeff:King Arthur flour recipe10:37am : Bialys with butter - Yes!10:38am : To elaborate, just as in the everything bagel you can't taste anything so they're boring, if Superman exists as a real thing in Captain Marvel's world, then his own existence is not as surprising. It's better if in Capt. Marvel's world Superman is not real, so his own existence defies all expectations, and his friends would think it impossible. If he's just unusual but not unique, not as much fun.10:38am : Thanks Zoot!10:38am : Ah twee before it was a thing.10:39am : Listener Robert, I think you’re onto something.10:41am : I love Orchestral Pop. Anything w/ a harpsichord on it!10:41am : Chad & Jeremy/Peter & Gordon
That would’ve been some tag team match back in the day!10:41am : Used to have some Chad & Jeremy 45s (and Peter & Gordon singles too!). Good stuff.10:41am : I could say the same about ecumenism if taken too broadly. If all (or too many disparate) religions are part of your own religion, it's...blah.10:42am : Winner fights David and Jonathan.10:43am : bialys wit budda.10:43am : So Listener Robert, we've journeyed from bagels, to comics, to the Infinite?10:43am : I saw Chad and a Jeremy, great vocals and guitar pickin’10:43am : Twee - aimed right @ Pop & British Invasion coattails
- but always smart quality stuff. FolkRawk ahead of the curve even. Much nostalgia.10:45am : Listener Robert, there's a quote, something like "Believeing ios nothing is as boring a sbelieving in everything."🥁 10:46am : Even though they were Brits, C and J always sound more SoCal to me.10:46am : Damn, I want a hot bialy with butter right now!10:47am : Aha well I advocate for Pop Culture as the real thing.
The Funny Books are Mythology. What more universal & potent symbology than Superman & Batman?10:47am : But I still like the idea of "Glass" that the gods walk among us, but don't know it. It works as the movie that it is, but there's no need for a sequel.10:47am : Bob:make em and freeze em10:48am : Wm. I know at least one album was recorded in NYC. But Socal, I get that, but they also seem very British.10:49am : Zoot, more like BUY 'em and freeze 'em!10:51am : Hey, I'm the last guy on the block to finally get Netflix.
Any recommendations?10:52am : @Listener Robert, why do you B'hai that notion?10:52am : Gosh, Listener Robert. I don't see myself keeping: "you're too ecumenical" as one of my arsenal of insults. Oh well..10:52am : Tin Star10:53am : Keep checking to see if this is Space Opera or Zappa. Damn! I'm definitely reading up on these guys.10:53am : Bob, Queen’s Gambit was great. If Shtisel, Unorthodox or Fauda are on, check ‘em out. Lots of good music docs also.10:54am : correction, you want a hot bialy 'wit budda' right now !10:54am : Bob- I LOVED the British series FLOWERS- dark, funny, unsettling and surprising- not like anything I'd seen before.10:55am : Thanks for the great show again, Bob.10:55am : Northguineahills, Bahais tend to be very nice and fun people. It's just their beliefs that are boring.10:55am : Heard no West tributes yet !10:56am : Thanks Bob! I bypassed bagel arguments today by getting croissants.10:56am : TY As Ever DJ BB Sir.10:57am : Hey, Leslie West “borrowed” my friend Sean’s ‘58 Strat and two vintage Martins. They were never returned.
R.I.P. Leslie. I loved you and your music despite....10:57am : thnx 4 a great year Mr BB!10:57am : @Listener Robert, then there a lot of Japanese syncretic "new religions" as well.10:57am : Oh, and Bahais tend to draw shit from all sides, unfortunately. They offend fanatics by being inoffensive and accommodating.10:58am : Thanks for the recommends!
And thanks for tuning in.
Stay safe!10:58am : I actually have heard some see Bahais as too ecumenical. But hey, they had Dizzie Gillespie and Seals & Crofts, so there's that.10:58am : Bob, thanks for your time, music and conversation. You really help to make life more tolerable these days.10:58am : @Listener Robert, then there a lot of Japanese syncretic "new religions" as well.10:59am : Happy New Year, BB from BB! Thanks for doing your do!
