I dined with Oliver Lake at Phil Gelb's Oakland flat, the best of dinner shows, because Phil hosts one or two or three artists who perform in his small space. Then we all sit down to dinner, Phil's vegan menu. We dine with the artists, dig Phil's marvelous cooking, and just absorb the experience.

Love Brandon Ross.

Holy Cow…!!!
I am so utterly stoked to hear yall speak of that
LOU REED Video !!!
Because I have been on a quest to Find It ! & reWatch it.
I hadn’t been able to find that anywhere on internet (YouTube, etc). Yet I had always been searching under the ‘Video Violence’ song from perhaps(?) under appreciated ‘Mistrial’ album. I haven’t re-seen the video since it was on alternative videos station TV mid 1980s!
(Never ever saw it on MTV!)
Will it be findable under ‘No Money Down’ song ?
- I will have a look see …
I thought it had been totally pulled from circulation.

Sam Segal:

Something amazing to me about the fact that these three guys have points of connection to such a vast web of legendary artists…Lou Reed, Oliver Lake, Arto Lindsay, Ruben Blades, Caetano Veloso, so many more. Not to mention Melvin Gibbs was a major part of Rollins Band in the 90s. Didn’t end up picking up any of the Rollins Band material because I can’t really stand the Henry Rollins aggression in most of the Rollins Band lyrics. But the band with Gibbs sounds amazing.

Lou Reed, Arto Lindsay, Caetano Veloso, Henry Rollins...I have no musical affection for any of them. The Lou Reed live album is an amazing outlier, I admit. But generally, these guys don't impress me.

↳ Dean @10:58
To each their own (of coarse!) yet I suggest yer missing out ! IMO Lou’s entire career has so much variety within it - it’s a stunning legacy!
And have you really listened to a wider variety of Arto’s output?! (Granted, I am a modern Brazilian music fan-guy!). Caetano !!! Come-On?! Early Mid & latter are all of no interest to you?
What abt edgy wacko genius / Brazil’s cultural treasure TOM ZÉ ?! Ok let’s go Now. Olé! Let’s Dance 💃 🕺 to the drummers 🥁 beat !
  11:30pm
Dean:

Thanks, i am Kyrios O'rang. I get it. I genuinely thrive on the enthusiasms of others, like you. I will never *not* pay attention to Reed et al., but despite the fact that I am well aware of the variety of his and Arto's work, I don't enjoy much of it.

Caetano is another issue. I by default dislike Brazilian pop music. I do love the work of Villa-Lobos and selected pop/jazz works, such as that of Badi Assad. But generally, I have no appreciation of Brazilian music.
