Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm
The Oscar:

One time I was out for dinner with a group of friends (all past and present record store clerks), and this moody semi-spoken piece was playing, and we were all going crazy trying to figure out what it was-- it sounded like Bat For Lashes, but more creepy and dissonant. Eventually we realized we were hearing two songs at once: "Past Present and Future" by the Shangri Las playing in the dining room, and "Black Hole" by Beck spilling out of the kitchen. It worked so well!
Avatar 3:32pm

Sheila, a Negroni variant we're gonna try tonight or tomorrow: the Vendome: equal parts gin, sweet vermouth, and Dubonnet, which is cheap-ish and easy-ish to acquire.

If you don't have that, we're enjoying a Bronx right now: 2 oz. gin, .25 sweet verm, .25 dry verm., 1 oz. OJ, dash orange bitters (if you have 'em). Shake, strain, kick back mainland style!

I could send you Kate's version of "St. James" if you do the whole show, Joe!

Here's the scoop!

Justine and the Victorian Punks was a collaboration between Justine, AKA Colette, a French-Tunisian performance artist living in New York, and Peter Gordon's Love of Life Orchestra, a stylistically omnivorous, pop-loving ensemble of avant-garde musicians. Gordon hung out with Beefheart in LA, met Harry Partch through his father, and had his mind blown open by Terry Riley; settling in New York in 1975, he met Arthur Russell and Rhys Chatham and proceeded to immerse himself in the downtown scene surrounding the Kitchen, an experimental performance space where Russell was musical director.
