@Sheila: Have you ever thought bought following the Ray Davies songwriting course? I guess he's still doing that every year for the Arvon Foundation. He surely is one of the best songwriters I know. You (and 15 other students) spent 5 days with him. You have to write (and perform) 2 songs a day. On Friday you all have to write a musical with 32 songs (in one day! It sounds horrible, but each one has wo write 2 songs, so the same number as the previous days). This has been one of the greatest experiences in my life.

There are weird threads of nostalgia attaching me to them, Sheila! As necessary as it all is. They just somehow "mean" the music in my brain, that useless appendage.

Kate wants to know how many CDs you had! What was your wallet strategy? Related: does your car have a CD player? Some great times this pandemic summer when we were driving around listening to new Bandcamp Friday CDs.

I love CD inserts, but I hate jewel boxes. Fortunately, fresh jewel boxes are a dime dozen. I scooped up 3 Gnegby shelves on craigslist and that is my current sitch

Our car has a CD player. However, it's hard to rent cars with CD players. I used to curate our trips in rental cars by packing CDS in my WFMU CD carrier to play for certain parts of the drive. Those days are over now, sadly.

The only time I was able to visit Japan was in the rainy season, thus, affordable for us. Wow. They were not kidding. (Even though we took two semesters of Japanese lanuguage lessons, we could not decipher menus, and so only ate crackers many days.)

A few years back, the Times did a story on the popularity of CDs in Japan. I think one of the last Tower Records exists in Tokyo.

As another great session of music with you @djsheilab comes to an end, I thank you for your precious gift. It's going to be very rough not hearing you for two weeks but I'll have to make due. I hope you will use your off time to something pleasurable and constructive. I wish you all the best. Stay safe and well, and take care of my buddy Alvy. ❤️

Excited for Monica, but we'll miss you next week, Sheila. The Valentine show last year with Habibi was so wonderful. Kate and I really treasure the memory. The next day she flew to Seattle to see her folks (and I saw Habibi in Brooklyn), and then when she came back, well, you know, everything went a little hinky.

But during your show, you played Kate's request, and we had drinks and loved the winter sunlight together and loved your tunes and just hanging out with you and everyone. We really treasure it still.

So happy Valentines Day or secular equivalent thereof from me and Kate -- to Sheila and to all you Friday Friends!

@Miss G: It's always rainy season in Japan. It's like Seattle but w/ heavier rain. There's a short time Feb-March, where you might get a week here or there w/o rain, but otherwise, it's usually overcast, outside the odd sunny day.
