"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Between C.I.A., Wasson, and Clare Booth Luce, psychedelics _started_ as very Establishment, people who had enough of a classical education to know about the Eleusinean Mysteries that were open only to the élite and wanted something similar.
I may judge Leary harshly because I'm a scientist and Leary always claimed to be, and certainly wanted the imprimatur of SCIENCE and the respect that gets, at least in some quarters even as he got more and more slip-shod in his methods, especially over-generalising from his particular seminary/West Point/Harvard case and tilting his pronouncements toward the ones that would get him more young 'tail'. And, of course, there was his fatal flaw, rooted in the most unscientific habit of all: believing the World was the way he wanted it to be.
—which is why I wrote 'harshly' and not 'over-harshly'. I don't dismiss him, but I think he's closer to Joyce or Burroughs than (say) Shulgin.

There were too many locks, but I'll use an analogy: official sexual morés in the early 1960s were terrible and terribly restrictive, but I know of at least one California high school in the 1970s where O(10) teachers were having sex with students. In software it is a given that fixing a bug can allow things to proceed far enough to trigger a much worse bug, as I learned when I fixed something 'small' just before shipping and would've wrecked the product if it hadn't been caught.

@threemoons could be, but there's not a lot of fishing in our river. Not an easy way in, and the Chesapeake is just a couple 100 yards away. Enough to keep me busy with panfish, but the big ones are in the bay

I was going to make a "no longer flail[ing]" joke earlier when you said you got your vaccine appt. but thought it might be too obscure -- now I wish I had done so!
I have always loved that DF is based in Brooklyn, where no one has an apt. large enough to use the product! But we gamed at Stefan's a few times and always had a couple of beers together at GaryCon. I was at the Kickstarter-end party like ... six years back? Very cool to see a DF employee here! We're pretty "theater of the mind" in my game (again, partly for space reasons), but I admire the product!

I believe I've heard your childhood varietals called 'butcher‘s blend'. ('Butler‘s blend' is a mix of whatever teas you've got hanging around, o.k. usually if iced.)
I really like dim sum's book tripe dish (ba yeh, 'hundred leaves') made with a lot of ginger and usually some chilis and sometimes like book tripe with curry and taro or potato.
I've had honeycomb tripe that I just could not eat, and that's rare for me, though chitlins (a misspelling, I think) also push it. Foot's the same for me.
I do think that if you're going to have a cow killed you ought to eat as much of it as you can.

BTW: I'm in Greenpoint! I first met Stefan at GC ... VI? because he was with Wandy, who was wearing a BUSHWICK DETH hat, and my buddy J and I were all: "You from Brooklyn?" And they were all: "*You* from Brooklyn?!" Then we drank many beers.
