Hi Sam. Is it one of those Documerica photographs from 1973?

Hi all! Speaking of Kurt G., he will be on for Fabio tomorrow. According to Stork, Fabio had a slipped disc or some sort of other major back issue. Feel better soon, Fabs.

I heard Kurt G. DJing on WKCR in NYC. Their 'Afternoon New Music' show. Pretty darn similar to a regular KG WFMU show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm
Sam Segal:

Oh cool! I didn't know Kurt was on WKCR. Don't often listen in the afternoon. Will need to figure out the next time he's going to be on.
Avatar 10:39pm
TDK60:

He was on yesterday, Tue. 3 - 6 PM. Don't know if that's a regular slot for him.

Nice track that!
Avatar 10:42pm
Ike:

Wow, I didn't know that about Kurt. Tony Coulter used to be on there every other week. I don't think I've ever heard anyone appear on WKCR for classical or avant-garde weekly. They need plenty of room for Phil Schaap to talk every day about what Charlie Parker ate for breakfast on April 6, 1953. (I kid, I kid.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm
Sam Segal:

Glad you vibed, Jena! Thanks for being here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
Sam Segal:

Hey, Ike, don't forget the time they save on Saturday nights for Phil Schaap to talk about what route Tommy Dorsey took to get to school when he was in third grade (I also kid. Phil Schaap is a broadcasting great and I learn so much every time I listen to him.)
Avatar 10:56pm
Constantly Choking:

@Sam (or anyone else!) happen to have any good music podcast recommendations? Like discussion or doc type?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
Sam Segal:

For whatever reason, my podcast listening actually hasn't focused much on music, really. I have heard really good things about "Cocaine & Rhinestones," a podcast about major moments in the history of country music. I think it is hosted by David Allan Coe's son.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm
Sam Segal:

Anyone else know about any good music-based talk podcasts?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm
Sam Segal:

One other one I have listened to and enjoyed is the 5049 Podcast hosted by NYC jazz/experimental musician Jeremiah Cymerman. Sort of the WTF with Marc Maron of the NYC avant-jazz scene. If that's an area of interest, I think you'd find a lot of great artist interviews.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm

@CC, I totally forgot I used to listen to the Popcast a lot. An episode with Ben Ratliff discussing the idea of Detroit techno as heritage music led to a multi-year obsession with Detroit techno and house music.

Sam, you hearing lots of fireworks tonight? Lots here in Queens. i am guessing hoping it has to do with the end of Ramadan and not the Palestinian - Israeli conflict.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm

rw i might be able to hook you up with an overdraft fee
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
Sam Segal:

@WR: I don't think there's a large Muslim population in my immediate area here in Bushwick, but I did hear a couple of fireworks popping off earlier actually. I bet it is Eid-related though, rather than directly related to the conflict.

@Sam there's a bunch of greats in the archives...deep dives on Avicci, Lil Wayne, Joao Gilberto, super interesting. Great sets so far...I could really go for an avant-garde massage these days....these Goldberg songs are nice

Ramadan ends tonight, but have to see the moon first. When asked what if it's cloudy, he said you just have to wait.

El-Eid must suck if you're stuck in Scotland (always cloudy). When I lived in Bed-Stuy, I could hear muezzin dp the adnan all the time every day. It was beautiful at first, but not at day break on Saturday (just like the gospel church next door on Sundays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
Sam Segal:

@CC, not at all music-related, but I'll take this chance to plug my favorite podcast in general. It is called "The Dig." It is an interview podcast about politics and history from a socialist perspective. Brilliant, nuanced long-form discussions with historians, sociologists, activists etc. www.thedigradio.com
