Gary, if you're trying to win the 2021 If You Lose Your Horse Punctuality Award...you're doing a good job!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm
coelacanth∅:

so that's what horses actually look like without their mind control engaged...
i just knew there was some *other* truth behind the horse.
Avatar 10:03pm
TDK60:

Great to reach the summit of Elemental Truth. It has been exhausting climbing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm

And yet you're right on time, Paul R!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm

You and me both, WR.

I see you received the glasses from "They Live" I sent you, Coel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm
Sam Segal:

It's been lonely at the top, TDK. I am glad you made it up here. I need the company.

Do I also get an award for device-switching in mid-stream?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm
Sam Segal:

Yes, Gary, but I'd be careful not to device switch mid-stream in any contexts other than this one.
  10:13pm

Good advice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm

i did Sam, thanks! no instruction manual though. it's been interesting

Evening! I’m here for the extravaGONZO.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm
Sam Segal:

Lucky you made it, rw! This extravaGONZO only happens bi-annually!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
coelacanth∅:

hey rw!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm

Threadgill!Genius!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
Sam Segal:

Absolutely, Doc! Been getting into his '90s Columbia releases a lot recently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
doctorjazz:

Think I have almost everything he put out, great stuff. Particularly partial to the Sextette from the 80s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
Sam Segal:

No one combines the heady and the funky like Threadgill.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
doctorjazz:

I don't think he plays much anymore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm
Sam Segal:

I saw him at the Vanguard in maybe 2013-2014...guess that was awhile ago now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
Sam Segal:

He did have a new album for large ensemble a couple years ago though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
doctorjazz:

But I think he composes and conducts more than he plays these days-i could be wrong.
Sawhim a number of times, going back to the trio Air.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm
Sam Segal:

That sounds right. When I saw him, he didn't actually play that much.
  10:47pm
rw:

Coelacanth!
  10:50pm
rw:

I saw HT one time with the Very Very Circus. Whenever that was. There’s a live CD from the night before or the night after that sounds a lot like the show we attended.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm
Sam Segal:

I love how much Threadgill features the tuba in his music.
  10:53pm
rw:

If I remember correctly the bass section was a pair of tubas. Might have been one tuba…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
doctorjazz:

Tuba and electric guitar, such an interesting tonal mix.

coelacanth∅:

hey chrestì

so Sam the station doesn't want any more letters/emails?
(was in kitchen)
  11:28pm
rw:

coel, the tax exemption was withheld so no need for more letters. That's my understanding, anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm
Sam Segal:

Correct, Coel. Everything received thus far will be helpful, but the tax issue is on its way to being fully resolved soon, so we don't need any additional supporting material at this time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm
doctorjazz:

Got one in this morning, but sounds like they didn't need it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm
coelacanth∅:

cool. Thanks.
i'll get the memo to my writing team asap, before they put another pot of coffee on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
doctorjazz:

Quite a trio on Bird Meets Wire (reference to Leonard's Cohen?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
Sam Segal:

Could very well be, Doc. Agreed that its an excellent group. Any time a new Susan Alcorn recording comes out, I am all over it. Never disappointed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
coelacanth∅:

i heard the ping pong balls and realised it was the same artist that did this

(even though for some reason it doesn't appear on his artist page)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm
Sam Segal:

Woah, excited to check out this Washing Machine piece. Love a good washing machine recording. Matmos did a whole washing machine album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
doctorjazz:

Better have a food spin cycle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm
doctorjazz:

...good spin cycle...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm
coelacanth∅:

yeah they both got to it before me! i've made washer recordings on 3 occasions, ~5, ~15, and ~42 years ago! never did anything with them.
Matmos' is more interesting, in my opinion, even though he didn't through ping pong balls into it. just the beautiful song of the washer.
Joonyong's is good though
Avatar 11:42pm
northguineahills:

Just woke from a nap.

My favorite washing machine piece was when Larry 7 dragged one he found on the curb, put it on stage at Tonic, plugged it in, and it didn't work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm
coelacanth∅:

(3 different washers)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm
Sam Segal:

Welcome, NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm
Sam Segal:

And who could forget the album "Washing Machine" by Sonic Youth? No washing machines to be heard on it, as far as I remember. But still, it deserves to be part of the conversation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm
doctorjazz:

Let It Come Down is lovely.
(Forgive my ignorance-there really is sucha thing as wagging machine recordings?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm
doctorjazz:

Washing machine, that is...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm
doctorjazz:

Thanks,Sam, cool show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm
Sam Segal:

Haha, just a couple that I know of, Doc. This Matmos album is made of manipulated recordings of a Whirlpool washing machine: matmos.bandcamp.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm
coelacanth∅:

sonic youth maybe get an honorable mention.
with no washers on the album though i feel like they're not coming clean
Avatar 11:51pm
northguineahills:

The kids on the cover of the SYalbum won a contest to be featured on the album. (I might suspect their parents were fans).
