true, Julie, the vid-vaxes aren't 100% effective at preventing the disease, but considering the normal annual flu vaccines are as much as 65% or so, and these are well into the 85-99% range, its remarkable. not perfect, but miles ahead, it seems, comparatively speaking. science geekiness here, fwiw.

I pass my two-week period after the second jab on Thursday. I am now in the process of considering my 'new' rules. As for the West Village taking over the former East Berlin -- I'd say the epicenter of that would be the Neue Schōnhauserstr -- used to be extremely gritty and had a very interesting bar (the Alt-Berlin I believe it was called), going back to even before WW2 I believe - but of course it got evicted and now it's all handbag shops and such, and of course a WeWork...

NGH - oh it's being homogenized for sure (above 110th), and of course anything beautiful (like the Lenox Lounge) has to be killed off. I'm just saying, street by street, house by house... quite a different vibe than the lower part of the island (which I agree feels quite sterile),.

@Photcopy: They're starting those field tests now. It will just render the male mosquitos sterile. Other countries in Europe, Asia, and, I believe Canada, have done the same w/ no ill affects according to peer-reviewed literature.

we have plenty of bats here in FL. The U of FL has a fund that puts up bathouses on private land. When, I was a kid, I would be a dick, and throw a golf ball way up in the air and watch the bats chase it until it realized it wasn't a flying insect.

I saw a bat flitting over the house one evening a week ago. Maybe it's time for a different approach; genetically engineering bigger, hungrier bats. There's probably a downside to that, most likely.

@6:41 Julie: in my case (around late 90s-early 00s) they did not call the town first - a neighbor mowed my lawn, looked in through my window, did not like what he saw and alerted another neighbor who was also the property manager, climaxing in the health officials paying a visit. Their report:"PCC2000 should buy a proper shelf for the books that are now stacked on the floor"... ohhhhh boy. Gotta love suburbia.
