Hey,

Paul Whiteman is the king of jazz.

I learned this while playing trivial pursuit with my parents.

Pie! I had no idea! But if the folks at Trivial Pursuit say it, I have no choice but to accept the rule of Jazz King Paul Whiteman.

Yes lots of rule accepting/appealing happens. #science

I haven't seen it, NGH. But based on name alone, I am interested. Also, thank you so much for pledging to this program! Your support means a lot to me.

Paul White man did have 2 of the great jazz players of the 20s, Box Beiderbeck and Frankie Trumbauer (and, actually a bunch of other jazz players). They would play stodgy music of the time, then break into a jazzy section featuring Bix and others

Jarrett's trio has to be among the very best we've had the pleasure to enjoy. Killer rhythm section. Daring, but not too. The very definition of music.

@rw, given Jarrett's reputation for being...difficult (as it were), I'm surprised he'd pick up a hitchhiker!
  10:58pm

Likewise bummed.

My pick for the trio is the multi-disc set from the Village Vanguard. Gorgeous. But I also can't live without selections from other standards/not standards discs.
  10:59pm

Dude was a black kid hitchhiking at a (white) ski resort area. Jarrett was there to play a show and had to sneak out to go skiing because his manager was worried he would break an arm or something and not be able to play.

I told my Jarrett story before, but I'm getting to the age I'm expected to repeat myself.
I went to see Jarrett solo at the Village Vanguard years back. They had a loud, touristy audience that night. Jarrett came out, started to play, audience kept talking.he stopped playing after a minute or so, sat quietly, then started again. Audience was still talking, he stopped again in a few minutes. He started a 3rd time, still noisy, got up, end of show. I understood, but was pissed off anyway, and refused to go see him again (which in retrospect was my loss, of course...)

Many years ago, I saw the Pat Metheny Trio in Boulder, Colorado. After the show, I happened to see Pat from behind, walking alone back to his hotel, which was only a few blocks away. I had already hung around long enough after the show, when he often comes out to talk to people, and had asked him a question, so I didn’t bother him on his walk. Still, it was pretty cool to see him walking alone down a vacant street in the dark.

Come on buddy.

Take time to grieve: When you lose a treasured horse, remember to take time to grieve and process your loss. Talking to friends and loved ones, holding a memorial service if you wish and taking care of yourself with sleep, nutritious food and exercise can all help you slowly begin to heal.
