Greetings, DM and fellow Deviant Observers. Just took an Instacart delivery and found the one inevitable f-up -- thought I ordered a bag of apples; I got one apple.

Hi DJ David. Just finished my daily music practice; singing, pickin' and grinnin' (or frownin' --depending on tune!).

Dean:

Pedantic jerk here, not a speaker of German, but I noticed your pronunciation of Brötzmann, and I offer constructive criticism. Like Jeff Golick, you pronounce it as if it were spelled Peter Breutzmann, namely, BROYTZ-mahn. But umlaut o (or oe) is pronounced quite differently. It's hard to capture in transliteration. Instead, say "eee" while pursing your lips into an O. The result almost sound like the o in woman. There are nuances to the r, too, but the sharp OY in BrOYtzmann is way off the mark.

I studied French in college and grad school. Everything else I just make up as I go.

I studied Spanish in high school, French in college, and German from Guru Guru liner notes.

I tried it out loud and I sounded vaguely Scottish. Or like I was doing a bad imitation of a Scottish accent.

*looks at the clock* martin * surman, perfect timing!

I've always pronounced brotzmann as dean explained above, but i only know german from cinema and recently, tv (deutsche welle in deutsche is fun for the news when practicing).

I'm sure there are real German speakers among the listeners who can provide better guidance than mine.

And don't forget: it's Leonard BURN-steen.

I am more participating in deviance tonight than observing it. Let me know if this becomes intrusive.

@LG, you sound like a classic case of Too Much Incoming Music-itis...I often get ready to purchase something I heard on WFMU (thank you Bandcamp "you own this" warning), or do actually repurchase it. Too much music, too little time...
