Been banished twice (first a false positive, second not quite so bad, as my whole family got it the same time). Many in my office, quite a few friends have gotten it past few weeks (there's a new, updated booster coming this month or next month, I'll be sure to get it).

Golly Polyus, assuming your restlessness reflects that your symptoms are mild, that's a good thing. You make the 3rd person in the WFMU orbit reporting "positive" today. I'm waiting to see if my cross country holiday weekend trip and old friend reunion results in any cases.

Hi, Kim!
Fellow listeners, I’m doing an experiment of trying to listen at the outer bounds of my WiFi. I’m hearing 99% in the right channel. Is anyone else getting that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm

Timing is never good for any of this. Glad it's mild, but that can be equally as frustrating. When I tested positive, I had virtually no symptoms and was banished to the back room to watch documentaries for 5 days.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm
doctorjazz:

↳ Listener Gregory @6:27
I posted this on Wendy's show, but, risking being redundant (which I often am these days), my take:

I haven't gone to a stadium concert in more than 30 years (saw Bruce a few times back then). The sound is muddy and awful, getting there and getting back are a headache, you see tiny dots in the distance instead of the performers (ameliorated by giant screens these days). it's too loud, it's generally expensive.
Having said all that (and it was mostly still true last night), I had a real blast!!! Danced up a storm! He played most of the old "hits".
  6:35pm
Listener Gregory:

@doctorj, The giant screens are a great addition, but I agree with what you say. You’d better not be going for the sound quality. My family goes for the party. Real Jersey people.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm
doctorjazz:

↳ doctorjazz @6:33
(My recollection of hiis shows 30+ years ago was of a very active, hyper figure, bouncing all over the stage, dancing, sweating up a storm. The 73 year old version was more sedate in that way, stool in place or walked around, but played very intensely, hardly any break between numbers, sang his heart out. and it lasted almost 3 hours)

Jeez, doc. Who pays that kind of money to *heckle?* Statler and Waldorf? (I always assumed they got senior tix, or were comped.)
  6:48pm
Listener Gregory:

It is weird to have a heckler at a concert like that. Why waste your time? And do you think you’re going to outshout the 40,000 fans???
I think about how dumb it was for Dylan to get booed when he went electric. Everyone knew what he was going to play, so why go if you didn’t want to hear it? At least there the hecklers had company.
  6:49pm
Listener Gregory:

@adamdoesit, excellent point!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm
doctorjazz:

↳ adamdoesit @6:46
I haven't thought of those 2 characters in ages, ;- )

It's actually not completely shocking (but stupid); it's standard at Jets games (and the concert being in MetLife stadium, maybe those old habits resurfaced. It sure felt like Jets game behavior (when they're falling on their faces).
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:50pm
WR:

Thanks for the report, Doc. I don't think I could handle a stadium adventure, at least nothing bigger than the Forest Hills stadium. And now you've got me thinking about going to see Willie Nelson in a couple of weeks...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm
doctorjazz:

↳ WR @6:50
Willie Nelson is in a similar category as Bruuuuuce, that is, how much longer are we going to be able to see them (part of why I went to see Springsteen). Nelson must be 1,000 years old...

Hey NGH, Adam Charlie Gregory, zzz - thanks for tuning in
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03pm
doctorjazz:

The negative side of seeing performers at the senior end of their careers, is they can sometimes be quite a disappointment. I saw Segovia 3 times, he was old. Twice he was terriffic; the 3rd time stiff, not a good performance. Saw Max Roach when he tore it up; then later, saw him need to be walked to the stage, and played pretty badly. I saw Sonny Stitt rock out, and then later sound bad. I saw Earl Hines, he wasn't still able to do it either. (Joe Turner, on ther other hand, came on stage on crutches, and knocked it out of the park). I could go on, but it can be depressing to catch players that should have hung it up.

And despite me being from Texas and having had tickets to the first 4th of July Picnic (which I gave to a friend) I've never seen him in person. Plus the lineup includes Los Lobos who I like (who I did see in the early 80s in a club).

You've probably seen the movie The Last of the Blue Devils (is that the title?) in which Joe Turner shows up to sing with some Kansas City veterans, including Count Basie. He appears on crutches there and then proceeds to rock the joint.

Goes to prove the point, it's hit or miss at a certain point. I love to honor some of the important perfofmers, sometimes you wonder if they should still be doing it. I saw Jon Hendricks (Lamberts, Hendricks and Ross), he also had to he helped on the stage, but he was great!
