Favoriting Mid-Valley Mutations with Austin Rich: Playlist from October 29, 2024 Favoriting

A combination of collage, new experimental records and other bits and bobs, Mid-Valley Mutations is a tour through the mind of Austin Rich, who has been broadcasting in some form since 1998. Heavily influenced by Dr Demento, Don Joyce and old fashioned College Radio, Austin creates Audio Essays on a variety of subjects, and even just plays records, from time to time. Sometimes Live music and Interviews will grace the program, helping create a situation where you don't really know what you're going to hear, when you tune in. What you need to know is when you enter the Mid-Valley region, be prepared for the Musical Mutations... in whatever form they take.

There were far too many songs that would fit into this show. I tried to include a few that I haven't really played on the show much.

I had Viewmaster stuff when I was a kid. I loved it, but we could only afford so many reels. So it got old.

↳ Song: "Journey to the Stars" by "The Ventures"
While I'm a massive Ventures fan, I think I've actually played the Man... Or Astro-Man? cover version of this song on my show more than the original. So here's the orginal!

I sing at everything, any time I can figure out a little rhyme or tune. I sing to the cats and to Marla a lot. But mostly I just sing to myself.

The Ventures were always great thrift store finds for me, as well as The Three Suns.

Thrift stores are trying to be vintage shops these days, and that has been spilling over into records, sadly. People trying to charge $10 for beat up thrift records...

These take about two weeks to fully produce, and I can't really work on other stuff while I'm doing them. So they are time-intensive. But I like doing them, so there will be more, somday...

Clint Eastwood bought the rights to what would be "Unforgiven" in the early 80s, and sat on it for ten years so he could be older when he starred in it... and it is easily my favorite western.... at least there's that...
