Listener comments!

  12:04am
Jack:

happy Valentine's Day, Therese!
  12:08am
Therese:

Thank you, Jack!
  12:10am
Roger:

I will only acknowledge this "holiday" between now and 3am.
  12:13am
Colin:

<3
  12:18am
Julie:

I am here and I expect to hear everyone that was just playing on the Grammy's, even though I didn't watch them. So feel free to tell me that cool people like Iggy, Patti & Robyn played on the Grammy's tonight.
  12:22am
Anayajay:

Oh, Therese, you are the best.
  12:22am
Therese:

Julie, I didn't watch them either. It was all about Arcade Fire and Lady Gaga's egg, if Twitter is to be believed.
  12:23am
Joe:

I hope Mr. Knox got a nice fat chunk of that sweet, sweet Heineken money for this song. cuz even after that, it's still goooood
  12:23am
Julie:

Yep Therese that was my exposure to it as well, which was more than needed!
  12:25am
Therese:

Mr. Knox deserves all the money Heineken can throw at him.
  12:25am
Jack:

Pretty good acoustic super group on the Grammys too, Dylan leading Avett Bros. and Mumford & Sons through a ragged but cool "Maggie's Farm." Was clutching an old-timey mike the whole time, why why, and then ah-ha, it was for the harmonica he busted out at the end.
  12:26am
Adam:

Hi, Therese, hi everyone, and happy Valentine's Day (take it or leave it as one desires). Alas, the Grammy's were rather lame, as is easily predictable. Arcade Fire and Lady Gaga's Spinal Tap-esque-but-operational egg were highlights, of different kinds. Jagger did a nice tribute to Solomon Burke, some country stars and aging jailbait divas like Aguilera did a grim Aretha tribute at the beginning. Mostly awful, occasional pleasant surprises. Good thing it was on at the restaurant AND when I got home!
  12:26am
Joe:

The B-side of the CD single of this song is called "Physical Sex" - which is why I still love the Darkness
  12:28am
Adam:

Jack, good call on the Dylan as another island in the abyss. Eye candy, industry self-congratulation and little else for much of the night.
  12:35am
Karaoke is fun...:

...but the uneven selection is ALWAYS a bitch! Get a song in mind, and they have something more obscure or worse by the same artist...dilemmas, yo
  1:03am
Adam:

Used to live in San Francisco...it's a shame about KUSF, that was a cool station in a region with plenty of cool options
  1:18am
coalhard:

KUSF is broadcasting now --on winamp player--it takes some hacking to do but coming in good here-- now back on WFMU
  1:23am
coalhard:

you have to play around with their player till you hit right buttons then plays on winamp
  1:24am
Adam:

Excellent Faust, Therese! Thanks for the tip, coalhard.
  1:25am
Therese:

Thanks, Adam!

And coalhard, that's good advice. I believe they're still on the web, it's just the FM signal that's been affected.
  1:26am
coalhard:

i have 80 some stations preprogrammed and listed in my winamp i just have to go down list hit play--WFMU is my 01--KUSF--is #8
  1:29am
Joe:

I'm contemplating friending Mr. Krewson on facebook just to get a copy of this mp3. Its cool - we have mutual friends.
  1:30am
Adam:

I'm curious, did any Chicago-area stations make the cut, coalhard? There was a great one, KOTR, I think, "The Otter" in San Luis Obispo on California's central coast. San Francisco's KPOO was also terrific. Nice "Blue Monday," indeed.
  1:32am
coalhard:

NO---i only listen too college stations or former college stations--wide range of music --no commercials
  1:35am
coalhard:

most good stations are west coast--but ann arbor and WFMU--are the best
  1:35am
Adam:

Yeah, I meant Chicago college stations, sorry. I'm curious how you might rate them. I listen to them, especially in the car, when I can peel myself away from NPR.
  1:38am
Adam:

The Night Train out of Obispo, CA was the best soul show I've ever heard, no offense to present company. If it still exists, I recommend it highly.
  1:40am
coalhard:

let me put a link on here for you --you will love it--www.collegeradiomap.com//
  1:41am
coalhard:

just click on an icon and go to that station---sorry therese--all my attention here again!!!
  1:43am
Adam:

Locally, I'd at least highlight WLUW (although it's uncertain fate has led it to a little bit more format/playlist imposition).. WNUR is terrific, but slices up long stretches of the day. WZRD is so hyper-freeform that they shy away from posting program schedules and DJs are unnamed "wizards" Thanks for the link!
  1:45am
coalhard:

i had to help a fellow traveler out--YOUR MY VALENTINE--no--meant her not him!!
  1:47am
Adam:

Yeah, wzrdchicago.org didn't make the map. Sloppy website, but good listening. No worries, I presumed Therese was your intended Valentine--and mine, as well...Glad tidings, nonetheless, coalhard...
  1:49am
Adam:

...respect to WHPK on Chicago's South Side...but above all that, an ever-deepening love for WFMU...I'm glad I found you!
  1:49am
Therese:

Ha! Thank you coalhard and Adam for the info and for the valentines!
  1:56am
Adam:

WNUR, I should have said more clearly, slices the day into blocs, like jazz all morning, world music for two hours at noon, rock until 9, hip hop after an evening show, pre-dawn freeform, weekends with other specialties, etc. WLUW got dropped by Loyola University and taken under Chicago Public Radio's wing, and is now precariously back with the school. The next KUSF? Feel guilty going on about the secene here. A few fine outfits, but yours got me listtening from a thousand miles away...
  1:57am
coalhard:

ha i just noticed that easter falls on april 24--a sunday--HAPPY EASTER too therese!!!
  1:57am
Hobie:

wzrd is streaming?? I used to listen to them analog-ly years ago!
  1:59am
Adam:

WZRD is streaming, and they update the playlist every month or two, sometimes more!
  2:00am
dan in Falls Church VA (aka DIFCVA):

LAUNDRYLAUNDRYLAUNDRY
  2:01am
coalhard:

also looks like i owe you a MERRY CHRISTMASS too--on sunday!!!
  2:02am
dan in Falls Church VA (aka DIFCVA):

like zippy the pinhead, I worship the spin cycle
  2:02am
Adam:

It's going to be a very nice year for Therese, Jesse and all of WFMU, particularly on Sundays...top drawer, coalhard!
  2:09am
coalhard:

i like spock that time they carried his brain off in a beer keg
  2:13am
Adam:

Fascinating, captain and logical, doctor...loving the set, Therese! Flamin' Groovies are so wonderful!
  2:15am
Therese:

Thank you, Adam. Live long and prosper.
  2:17am
Julie:

Mmmmm I could use a nice keg of Spock brain
  2:23am
coalhard:

we have a local drink called "green god damn"---more down to earth but still makes your toes pointy
  2:25am
Adam:

Yowsah! Where do I have to go to get this beverage?
  2:27am
Julie:

@Adam, Vulcan perhaps? Or 1968?
  2:29am
Adam:

If coalhard can get this on other (fictional) planets and 43 years ago--color me impressed, Julie.
  2:29am
Therese:

Please elaborate on this "Green God Damn!"
  2:30am
coalhard:

us coal miners brew it in the coal mines--coal is main ingredient-and his sister ethanol
  2:32am
Bastard out of Carolina:

Are you sure it doesn't involve mere Everclear, lemonade from a mix, three different citrus sodas, Kool Aid, and such?
  2:33am
coalhard:

we lost our copy of perodic table--we have to hold mug upside down to catch brew
  2:34am
Sean:

Oh man, hearing Mort Shuman has made my night. Thanks Therese.
  2:34am
Adam:

Sounds nourishing.
  2:36am
Therese:

There seems to be some regional variation on this beverage!
  2:37am
Adam:

I remember a college concoction called Porch Crawl, or Porch Piss for the less delicate. Beer, vodka, lemonade...ouch....
  2:38am
Adam:

Parfait, Therese...tout parfait!
  2:40am
Everclear, Vodka, Gatorade:

but anything can happen in a fucked up punch
  2:40am
coalhard:

i still can't figure out who nosmo king is??
  2:42am
Noalco Hollalowed:

sounds like a dick to me
  2:43am
Noalco Holallowed:

to me, too, whoever he is
  2:45am
Adam:

I never tried the Purple Jesus, but a friend told me this vodka and grape whatever in a garbage bag was a staple of school hockey games in his native London...Ontario.
  2:49am
coalhard:

people in egypt get to smoke on the street--try that here and they hose your body down
  2:52am
Colin:

Purple Jesus was made with pure grain alcohol in Kingston...Ontario.
  2:57am
Adam:

Right on, Colin. Sorry I've never been there. London is a lovely town. Coalhard, don't take shit for smoking outdoors, especially during winter. Oh, the Nico--Therese, you musical minx!
  2:57am
coalhard:

i just stuck a nanner in my beer and called it a beervis--thank you very much
  2:57am
Therese:

Thanks everybody! Go out and show the love.
  3:33pm
frank b:
