Listener comments!

  12:02am
Danne D:

Hi Therese!
AWESOME start to the show!
Shout out to those fighting for workers to have rights in Wisconsin!
  12:06am
dave:

What Danne said. Though as someone who grew up in Minnesota, I have to say I'm a bit conflicted about being so proud of the mob in Madison.
  12:08am
FMU Idiot:

UAW Local 259. Yea power to the Union!
  12:09am
coalhard:

it boils down to corporate control of america--you don't want that
  12:13am
Skirkie:

This radio show kills fascists.
  12:15am
fleep:

coalhard i think we may be too late on that one. the ghosts of robber barons have invaded the minds of the young turks
  12:17am
dave:

It's never too late, and nothing is inevitable.
  12:19am
Danne D:

Amen to that Dave.

I thought I couldn't possibly love Therese anymore and here she rolls out this set!
  12:20am
Nanker:

Cool play there with The Mekons!
  12:21am
fleep:

@dave you are correct of course, i was letting the sunday papers get to me. there is a way through this.
  12:21am
Upper East Jeff:

Keep fightin' those cuts Therese. Awesome set!
  12:25am
Ben from Madison:

Wisconsin is with you to Therese.
  12:25am
Danne D:

Well we're fighting to keep that from happening Therese.

There are legislative elections this year (2011) in NJ and you can send the governor a message loud and clear.
  12:25am
dave:

"Madison.. to Trenton.": from your mouth to God's ears.
  12:27am
Danne D:

me too Therese - I got a scholarship from UFCW Local 464A
  12:28am
Skirkie:

I ♥ the submarine.
  12:30am
Danne D:

speaking of the marathon, those of you who are lucky to have a job still these days you can show super support for the fabulous Therese by adopting her!

  12:31am
Danne D:

Sent you that great pic I took from yesterday Therese via e-mail
  12:32am
Skirkie:

Marathon shifts and adoption decision/papers will be filled out within the next few days. You beat me to the punch this year, Danne D, kudos.
  12:33am
coalhard:

UP PERISCOPE (+) A GOOD SONG ON THE SURFACE CAPT.--SET TORPEDO TO STUN!!!
  12:33am
dave:

i avoided the necessity of elbow/hair dancing by lurking against a wall at the maxwell's show. but holy crap was that place packed.
  12:34am
Danne D:

LOL Skirkie, I had to get Terre T otherwise I would be disowned I fear.
  12:34am
UFCW Local 881:

...screwed over rank-and-file entry level employees in Chicago as a matter of policy. If you find that statement provocative, keep in mind that 100 miles south-by-southeast of Madison, we specialize in things like union corruption, and place a premium on both big business and bureaucratic inertia, not to mention single party rule.

Better luck to Madison and elsewhere. If a renewed labor-left doesn't win the next elections in Wisconsin--and if there is not long-term economic growth there and in other threatened places--it will only be a rearguard struggle in the age of dimishing expectations and voter backlash.
  12:36am
Danne D:

This was a great show to be at for sure.
Terre T + Reigning Sound = Win
  12:37am
dave:

another great thing about the reigning sound show: the way the whole crowd seemed to sing along with like EVERY. SINGLE. SONG.
  12:39am
coalhard:

one last thing---a shout out to msnbc for covering wisconson events with intelligence!!!!
  12:42am
coalhard:

maybe chris hanson will tell the gov to have a seat over there--and zip his fly up
  12:45am
Danne D:

you're one of kind, coalhard!

Btw, some of the comments board denizens may want to take note that there are now some comments boards up for adoption too. (Now I have to say I did not see this one on the list, but I wouldn't be surprised if a friendly note and paid pledge wouldn't make that possible) :)

coalhard:

i go to work in 16 days here in west virginia--i owe wfmu--much
  12:51am
Danne D:

Never knew where you were coalhard :) always thought you were one of the euro listeners for some reason (maybe the late hours you usually are around here)
  12:53am
Danne D:

though your name certainly makes sense for someone from WV
  1:02am
Danne D:

Therese and Johnna (sp?) have a good rapport :)
  1:12am
Marmalade kitty:

Has there ever been a DJ fired from WFMU?
  1:12am
coalhard:

i hate to not comment on music--but i am 56 yr old --own home but small pension--300.00 a month (short time in a unionized mine)before the union we had to work 7 days a week
  1:13am
Roberts Rules:

Mm. Kitty, you cannot "fire" a volunteer.
  1:13am
dan in Falls Church VA:

hi Danne D hi coalhard hi Therese
  1:14am
Danne D:

Kitty - there have been suspensions. I don't know that a ban if there would be per se.

Pleasure to meet you coalhard - and nice to see there's a commenter older than me :)

Hey Dan in VA :)
  1:15am
coalhard:

dan in Falls Church VA:

@coalhard i took a long bus ride on the OUT OF SERVICE - EXPRESS
  1:16am
Adam:

Hi, everyone, great tunes. A volunteer's show could face cancellation or restaffing, though, right? Good luck, coalhard. My dad's family is based in a town in Pennsylvania where the mines closed.
  1:17am
Therese:

Hi everyone! Sorry for my silence in here, it's taking me a bit to re-acclimate to Studio B. You seem to be having a good time without me though!
  1:19am
Danne D:

well the schedule changes twice a year, Adam, and it's always very competitive for spots. So sometimes folks get bumped out a cycle, etc. I can only recall a couple times where there may have been a suspension and that was quite a long time ago at this point.

Hi Therese! :D Thanks for a great show!
  1:19am
coalhard:

or a dj could have a damn baby--and all of suddun it is somehow more imporntant--kidding!!--love mike lupica too
  1:20am
Marmalade kitty:

What happened there!! 10 comment avalanche mine went missing!
  1:20am
Danne D:

http://wfmu.org/about.shtml

This is the FAQ and answers the question regarding scheduling :)
  1:21am
Danne D:

we saw your comment kitty :) things are just a little exciting in Tel Aviv today I guess :)
  1:22am
Marmalade kitty:

have you heard of Kenny Everett
  1:24am
coalhard:

there is a small quirk in commenting sometimes--repeats do happen
  1:25am
Adam:

Danne, understood. I meant to suggest that, in the event of conflict, the more subtle method of non-renewal of a program could suffice without resort to suspension, which, like you said, is unusual.
  1:28am
Danne D:

Haven't heard of him Kitty, but looked it up - "When England was a kingdom, we had a king. When we were an empire, we had an emperor. Now we're a country ... and we have Margaret Thatcher".
  1:29am
Marmalade kitty:

you mean DJ Whacking mob style
  1:29am
Danne D:

Kenny Everett was not renewed...
  1:30am
Danne D:

However as to the show at hand, Therese is awesome <3
:)
  1:32am
Tristan B:

Good afternoon from Sydney, Australia!
  1:34am

  1:37am
Danne D:

FMU is super-nice to the volunteers :)
  1:40am
Marmalade kitty:

  1:40am
yair Yona:

Jana is off mic, cant hear her
  1:41am
Adam:

Nice Slits!
  1:52am
coalhard:

i have no reason to say this right now--but i have bad feeling mubarack is coming back with iron fist--he is like darth vader--i'm sure he has trick up sleeve--but the music is good!!!
  1:56am
Marmalade kitty:

was darth vader that bad?
  1:59am
Danne D:

I figured a fair result would be to have Mubarak go run FIFA. I mean he can't be anymore corrupt than the guys running it now, right?
  2:00am
Adam:

Mubarak might be spent, especially if US isn't eager to help restore a humiliated 83 year-old ex-dictator. In the rest of the region of uprisings, though...the conservative monarchs could still prove strong enough from Western sponsorship for counterrevolutions now. The more radical regimes have been getting along without the West for so long that their dictators may prove immune to protests and international attention for the time being.
  2:03am
coalhard:

george bush chocked on a pretzel once--what caused that
  2:07am
Danne D:

Joe Franklin is a good example with his 1 million 78 RPM records :) Think he's ever gone without a song he was trying to remember?
  2:10am
Marmalade kitty:

Malcolm X was the best president US never had
  2:10am
Adam:

Tunisia and Egypt regimes were Third Worldist opponents turned into US clients decades ago, but who kept that secular and populist pretense from the generation before: maybe even identified with post-Cold War US against jihadism, etc. Algeria is another, and I think will be similarly next-in-line to fall to mass protest and reform. The right-wing kingdoms are different, not to mention better funded, though Sunni monarch in Shiite Bahrain is going down for almost certain. Libya could be--already might be-- the most violent scene, like Romania in 1989. Poor Yemen might be ready to fragment like Yugoslavia did. No idea on the Bush pretzel, though.

I sure as hell appreciate you, Therese, the show, and the community here, eh?
  2:12am
Marmalade kitty:

don't mention it..
  2:13am
yair Yona:

Thompson's version is so cool, like the entire concert
  2:13am

John Mcenroe for president!
  2:34am
Marmalade kitty:

John Mcain was a good looking guy (for such a ****) back in 1973!
  2:37am
Mac is Back:

Pretty good after how many years of beatings at the hands of POW camp guards? Still got it...
  2:41am
Malcolm X in the Middle Of Controversy:

In hindsight, endorsing one-party rule in post-colonial Africa seems like a bad, bad idea. Egypt, Algeria, Sudan--maybe I was a bit soft on them and the other anti-imperial strongmen. Sorry, Africa. Sorry, America.
  2:43am
Marmalade kitty:

he looks more like a Mcain© Maris Piper these days
  2:45am
dan in Falls Church VA:

who is the other person keeping company with Therese?
  2:46am
Adam:

She has a large audience of children--and therefore, a large audience of easily frightened parents, by extension. Comes with that territory. Another side of the public never liked the jailbait diva pop music, or the industry that generated it, to begin with, so treating her like a sacrficial lamb was no...sacrifice. A consensus against the former Mouseketeer emerged thus....
  2:46am
Danne D:

Ground ball went through 1B Bill Buckner's legs.

1986 World Series.
  2:47am
Jack:

"River Deep Mountain High" not becoming a massive hit is supposed what "broke" Phil Spector.
You are correct on the '86 Mets. The ball went through Buckner's legs.
Britney has a new record out.
  2:47am
Danne D:

ask Evan Funk Davies about that one, Therese ;)

(well maybe not). Red Sox lost.

Baseball Project is awesome btw - saw them at Maxwell's with EFD and Joe Belock in attendance.
  2:48am
Danne D:

  2:50am
Danne D:

anyhow here's a link about it:

  2:50am
Marmalade kitty:

Danne D:

  2:52am

  2:55am

  2:57am
