Free trip to Togoland for the first person who recognizes the record today's three cassettes are resting on (see picture to the left).
Avatar 11:38am
Tony Coulter:

(Please note that Togoland hasn't existed since 1914. The winner of today's contest will be responsible for providing his or her own time machine.)

Good Tuesday, Tony and all!! Oh, if I had a time machine, I'd be waylaying high-seas shipping in the age of sail and bringing WFMU beaucoup doubloons!

If I had a time machine, I'd crank it back four hours and get another hour of sleep!

The LP cover is completely unfamiliar, so I'll guess it's an obscure Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass.

I don't deserve Togoland!
BEHOLD THE COULTER!

Togoland? Is that where they invented the modern concept of take out?

I didn't get a Dougie email, didn't know if this was happening.
Avatar 12:13pm

Hmm -- I'm still not seeing comments on the playlist page. I can see them coming in from the accuplaylist page -- but I can only see the first couple of words. So -- I have no idea what y'all are saying!

which one of us broke the comments machine?
Avatar 12:25pm

Well, of course, you won't see this until later, but: The playlist system has frozen. Batman (aka Kenzo) has been alerted, so hopefully everything will be hunky dory again sometime soon.

I don't usually have trouble with the stream, but it keeps buggin' out on me this morning. Twice in the last half-hour I've had to close the pop-up and open it again. Anyone else, or is it just on my end?
Avatar 1:29pm
Tony Coulter:

"The World, the Flesh and the Devil" is the cassette in the middle in my pic. The one with Catherine Deneuve on the cover (who knew she was in an '80s industrial band).
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:29pm
listener james from westwood:

Dug the Tu Quoque comp! My heart sounds like the "Ritual du Plaisir" when I arrive at the FMU record fair.
Avatar 1:30pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Conrad: There are problems happening today, yes -- basically server overload causing delays. Should be better now/soon.
Avatar 1:34pm
Tony Coulter:

Tho the problems were with the playlist, not the stream, so....
Avatar 1:42pm
Chris from DC:

Interesting to hear T.A.C. I'm a fan of Simon Balestrazzi from hearing him on Scott Williams' show, and was wondering about this project.
Avatar 1:43pm
Tony Coulter:

QUESTION: I will be taking two weeks off at the end of this month. My plan is to re-broadcast two old "Tape Hiss" shows during my absence, since those shows don't get archived. Anyone have any druthers as far as which shows get re-broadcast? I'll be here next week, so you have until then to cast your vote.
Avatar 1:47pm
Tony Coulter:

Didn't record the earliest shows, though -- so those are out.

I realize it may be hard to remember what anything was -- but just figgered I'd ask!

I would like to hear the Volkswhale, Glorious Moodmen, Kopf/Kurz one again. I know it was fairly recent, so maybe the second week?

Heya Fredrik! A bit of vigorous exercise should take care of the tingling.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:33pm
listener james from westwood:

I too wonder how only 1 side of the cassette can have bleed-through. Odd. The 1980s were a chaotic time, is all I can offer.
  2:33pm
Fredrik Nilseni:

OK, I'll do my aerobics to this last cassette.
Avatar 2:35pm
Tony Coulter:

@ James: Actually, I am starting to hear bleed-through on this side too (arghh!!). It's still much less than on side B, though -- so far anyway!
Avatar 2:36pm
Tony Coulter:

Or at least I heard it at the end of the last track and during the gap. Fingers crossed.
Avatar 2:37pm
Tony Coulter:

Are they saying, "Big bone, chicken leg"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm
Rich in Washington:

Bleed through just happened to cassettes sometimes, didn't it? It wasn't something one could rectify during playback. Like some magnetic damage to the tape, yes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm
Rich in Washington:

I've had cassettes where you could faintly hear the opposite side in reverse along with the side you intended to listen to.
Avatar 2:40pm
Tony Coulter:

That's bleed-through! Not much you can do about it.
Avatar 2:40pm
Tony Coulter:

Thankfully, tho -- its barely happening on this side.

Forgot to say: Lucas Trouble was in the band on now (Hymn)
