Hello Daniel! Curious, but how closely do you still follow European events? Did you hear about the tragic truck filled with Syrian migrants who tragically died in Austria?

This sounds great but I feel like this could drive all of your neighbors really crazy.

Well now this part could make all of your neighbors dance.

@Jake True. It's not fair. There's no neighborhood where I can play the kind of music I like out loud and people dance to it.

Hiya, Jefferson, p-90, Bronwyn, Mayuko! Aye, JakeG. Not just trucks, drownings as well. They got quite a crisis on their hands...

Hi Daniel!

JakeGould:

@DanielBlumin: Agreed. Won’t go into my family’s Eastern European history, but it’s stunning to me the endless issue of migrants has existed since… Forever… And it’s still not solvable in the 21st century.

Anyway, I’m full of chicken… Music!

totally fried... so i took a day trip up to Poughkeepsie today, walked over the worlds longest over-water pedestrian bridge, and stared off into the distance for a few hours.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm
Daniel Blumin:

Sounds great, steve! Sounds like what I've been doing. Minus the walking, the bridge, and Poughkeepsie! How long was the walk?
Avatar 11:01pm
steve:

I think the ped bridge over the Hudson is 1.28 miles? its really very nice. and when you get to the other side there's a guy selling potato knishes on the side of the road which were good.

That sounds wunderbar, steve! Especially the knishes! Question mark, thank U! Bronwyn, I'm sure they'll talk about accessing the book tomorra!
  11:11pm
JakeGould:

@steve: “…there's a guy selling potato knishes on the side of the road…” Seriously? Baked or fried? Jealous of that… Went to Coney Island a few weeks back and miss the sound of home-made knish sellers dragging carts through the sand.
Avatar 11:21pm
steve:

i think they were baked... they weren't anything too compelling but after the walk it was perfect. guy had barely legible handwritten signs for hot dogs and ice cream scotch taped all over the truck and and i eventually discovered "knishes $3" hidden in scribbly handwriting on a random sheet of paper.
  11:30pm
JakeGould:

@steve: Nice! There was this guy who would walk the beach at Coney Island/Brighton Beach and hawk knishes. By the time he reached the end, he would take what he made and then go to OTB and play the horses. Another world!

But enough about my memories: A longer than 1 mile bridge sounds great! Congrats on the journey!
Avatar 11:32pm
Mayuko:

Did you take Amtrak or north metro to get there, steve?

This is it, right? The “Walkway Over the Hudson” www.walkway.org

Hi all! Hey @Steve, anything else much in Poughkeepsie to see? I've got some family members in town & I was trying to convince them that we could drive up someplace like Storm King Art Ctr. tomorrow. Probably won't work though.
Avatar 11:42pm
steve:

if they like art Storm King and Dia Beacon are both undeniable and between NYC and Poughkeepsie. but there's really not much inspiring in Poughkeepsie, its a pretty ecomonimcally depressed town... i spent my college years there and go for the friends who still live there, nostalgia, bridge, and scenic train ride...
  11:51pm
JakeGould:

Yeah, Poughkeepsie is quite bad nowadays. I had a recent gig where one of the staff commuted 2 hours back and forth each way to NYC from Poughkeepsie because there are just no jobs up there for them. Really sad because—on a soapbox—we live in an era where people can work from home and from anywhere and Upsate NY is nice. Why not telecommute and then live somewhere nice and green?
Avatar 11:58pm
Mayuko:

That was pretty good pronunciation of Japanese.
