And, like Gord's original, it counts as CanCon (because of music + lyrics), guaranteeing ample Beaver Bin plays!

Avatar 11:19am
Marc Francis:

Hahahahahaaaa. Beaver bin plays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am
Gaylord Fields:

@davefromtoronto: It was a way for CBC radio programmers to minimally comply with CanCon, by segregating all the MAPL-qualifying music:

Avatar 11:22am
Marc Francis:

It made sure a certain amount of Canadian made music was played on Canadian airwaves. I think it worked really well for a while but I am not so sure these days? Google time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am
Gaylord Fields:

@Marc Francis: It worked for awhile, until the government started upping the required percentage of Canadian content. This frustrated programmers, especially those near the US border. So this resulted in the "Beaver Hour" (all CanCon, and usually at 4 am), played from the aforementioned bin.
Avatar 11:27am

Gaylord always comes up with the BEST band names.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am

@Baby: You'd be interested in a band called Beaver Bin, certainly?

I moved to Naples, FL from Hoboken. I'd rather drive on the NJ Turnpike all day than have to make my 25 miles one way work commute to Estero. It's a demolition derby with all of the midwestern and Canadian snowbirds. Come on down during OFF season, it's not so bad.

yeah, I think the song is "Every Morning" by Sugar Ray, before its lead singer became an entertainment reporter.
Avatar 11:34am

YES SUGAR RAY!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am

@davefromtoronto: My pleasure! The term was strictly radio industry jargon, and not something the public would have encountered.

Didn't they have a Canadian content rule on TV as well? I thought that's how the Bob & Doug McKenzie bits on "SCTV" got started.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am

@DG: Precisely! SCTV was told to add two minutes of Canadian content to the show, so it gave the gov't the most broad, preposterous Canuck stereotypes it could think of. And the rest is comedy history.

If Elvis were still alive, he'd probably be making about two albums a year, including an annual Christmas record, which would have tons of cool guest stars, and maybe a diflferent hot producer every year.
