Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from April 7, 2017 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

although in 1968, i suppose a song like silver birch would do more business than a song like runaway, if one wanted to look at things from a cynical point of view.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm
Lane Gray:

Although cultural appropriation is almost essential. You wouldn't have white rock and roll without Chuck Berry; you wouldn't have Chuck Berry's double-stops without Bill Monroe's mando chops, and you wouldn't have had Bill Monroe without a healthy dose of rural black Kentucky.
So I was joking.

Sexercise, eh? How's that one?

Love this Scientists. I think they re-recorded it a few times.

I shall miss my current band. The vagaries of modern commercial radio just blew up my band. The drummer lost his program director/deejay job, and is pulling the plug on the band. One last gig tomorrow night.

If I remember my teenaged musicology, NOFX went from metal, to punk, to poppy-punk.

Not my cup of Darjeeling, but hey!
Avatar 2:33pm
glenn:

For the uninitiated, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes consist of Lagwagon frontman Joey Cape on the guitar, Chris Shiflett (Foo Fighters) on the other guitar, Lagwagon drummer and Fat Wreck utility superhero Dave Raun on the skins, and are rounded out by Fat Wreck-head-honcho/NOFX main-dude Fat Mike, and incomparable crooner Spike Slawson.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm
Lane Gray:

Given that I only have one weekend off from the truck a month, I'm thinking of just letting everyone know there's a decent steel player available the second Saturday, and just sit in with people. Get a band when I get a new job. And I have an interview this evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm

Unfortunately, yes, Brian. People in neighboring apartments generally do not appreciate a drummer in their midst. Plus, while chicks dig a guy who plays an instrument, the enthusiasm tends to fade when they're forced to live with, and maneuver around said instrument during cohabitation.

JP,, what about the better electronic kits? I played an open show that had a set that sounded positively real, with the exception of being able to sit next to them and still hear my amp.

I used to be vehemently opposed to electronic kits, Lane, but I've been reconsidering my stance, as of late. Problem is, to get one of the better kits costs a pretty penny.

Yeah. A good kit costs as much as a good pedal steel. Maybe even more, and to replace my guitar with new would run between 5 and 6 grand.
