Roky's influence on Janis Joplin's singing is immeasurable. (but i'd a million times rather hear him)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm

@coelacanth∅ Re: Janis, there does seem to be a sonic kinship between Roky and Janis. I never really thought of that before. Maybe it's a Texas thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm

i recited some of the lyrics to this one to a 70-80-year-old guy i know a few days ago and he was pretty impressed. he'd never heard of the elevators somehow. (or Roky)

My favorite Elevators song is probably Fire Engine.

coelacanth∅:

someone told me Janis was trying to become the singer for the elevators. don't know if it's true but very glad it didn't happen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm
ultradamno:

Yeah, from the link "Despite rumours though Janis never sang with the Elevators, and the possibility of her joining them as a second singer remained unfulfilled. It seems unlikely that Janis would have considered such a move at this stage anyway; she was still trying to go straight" And, yeah, the Elevators by all accounts stayed on acid as much as they could manage.

Hey Nate, thanx for such a great tribute show to Roky Erickson. You're playing amazing songs. I remember going to see Roky at Castle Clinton and having an extra ticket. I was walking down Broadway behind a guy toting several vinyl Roky Erickson records who was talking to himself about how he didn't have a ticket but wanted to go to the show. I gave him my extra ticket and he was so overjoyed gave me two of his records.
