Handy Haversack:

I think we just don't hear about the Amazon warehouse wage slaves and homeless people dying --only the entertainers. So selection bias makes it feel like music is hit harder.

Also: music industry as opposed to TV: more room for older people to still be relevant and active in music.

Phillippe, it was heartbreaking to read them all. Particularly when thinking it was only 20 or 30 and multiplying that by 10000.... last year I had two close friends die from cancer and another 6 or so acquaintances pass. Sad about Prine as well, but he was a real set up for COVID-19; he was 73 years old, and was treated in recent years for cancer of the neck, and, even worse, lung cancer. The reports that he was "stable" were misleading-being stable on a respirator doesn't necessarily mean you're any better. It's basically stalling for time, hoping your lungs do some healing in thatextra time.

Regarding Coronavirus deaths, I was reading that there is a 10x increase in people dying at home. Meaning per week in NYC 20-30 people die at home. Now the number is more like 200-300. And the rationale being these are undiagnosed Coronavirus cases or people who didn’t seek care. Or these are people who could not get the care they needed because of the stress/strain this whole thing is having on healthcare in general.

Sobering thought.

No one should be getting handshakes of any kind at the moment. A moist handshake in the current environment could only mean one of two things: the person recently coughed in their hand and didn't wipe it off on their pants or the person just finished washing their hands for 30 seconds but ran out of paper towels to dry off. Following up Granny's sweetie, the first verb usage was slightly before, in 1350: "ethe theruppon with thi breth, ant hit wol moysten aȝeyn, ant thenne hit wol cachen the foyl fast."

OED also notes: "In many contexts now differing from damp by having a neutral (sometimes, esp. with reference to the texture of food, good) rather than a negative sense, and in connoting a lesser degree of wetness. In early use the word had a wider application."

The earliest family cars I remember were a 69 Ford Econoline, early 1960s VW bug, and a Toyota Corona. The bug has right-side driver's seat and has been dormant for most of the last 40+ years but my sister and her family are going to restore it.

Phillippe - you may notice that the steering wheel was off centre, a bit to the left. It just made your driving style even cooler
