I have heard others saying their govt. money has come in. I went to the bank yesterday (fun!), and it had not.

NYS residents: The NYS Comptroller keeps money that businesses owe you but have not been able to get to you. There's a registry. Just type in your name!

I think frequently about the different lag times listeners have for the signal -- fastest on the radio, clearly, but also different for every web instance.

Sometimes we have WFMU coming out of three sources: the hardest-working boombox in the bathroom, the desktop in the dying room, and the laptop in the front room. Depending on where I stand, I can get some pretty cool brain effects from the time differentials.

The noise machines do nothing for me, the distracting wife/pet/kid sounds still get through. The thing that worked best for me as far as blocking out the sound was listening to 40s-50s crime and science-fiction dramas, kind of adult bed-time stories. They bothered my bride, though, so switched to listening to them on earbuds and now I have really bad tinnitus... My doc has since told me you never really get good sleep by listening to any type of talking as your brain keeps trying to process it even when you're asleep. (sorry if it's TMI)

Hello Mary and all
I somehow survived my first ever zoom meeting (@Mark Hurst: on another computer, an Apple one, so it's already compromised)
  2:30pm
spodiodi:

had a friend who tattooed it on his neck. it *can* be a problem
Avatar 🛎 Swag For Life Member 2:31pm

@fred Hee, hee. ;) And hi!
Avatar 🛎 Swag For Life Member 2:31pm
Handy Haversack:

@fred, didn't you mention recently that CNRS or the French govt. had created its own vid. conf. platform and that it was so secure you couldn't even log on to use it?
  2:32pm
spodiodi:

that's ironclad
  2:32pm
rw:

I keep checking my email and I keep having nobody hitting me up for anything. I can't decide how to feel. Mostly relieved but partly unloved.

fred, that Zoom thing scares me a little. My son described it as "straight-up spyware".

Mary Wing:

Hi there Micheal 98145 and fred! Yeah, I have Zoom installed on a work laptop which I'm going to wipe when I'm back at the office finally.
Avatar 🛎 Swag For Life Member 2:33pm
Handy Haversack:

I uninstall Zoom after every meeting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm
fred:

@Handy: kinda. I suspect the reason I can't log on is more likely due so some bureaucratic snafu, or office politics (I've been blocked from stuff by a higher-up before)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm
Michael 98145:

The NYT had several good articles about the Zoom product
  2:37pm
rw:

Okay, speaking of productivity, I'm going to go make a sandwich or something and get working on some kind of project. Even if it's just brushing my teeth. Thanks as always Mary and take care everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm
fred:

Also it seems CNRS set it up with strict limits that mean you have to book meetings weeks in advance, so people rushed to book recurring ones that filled all the spots anyway

Cheers, rw!

I thought the way you presented it before was very funny, @fred, in a gallows-humor, the-whole-world-is-absurd kind of way.

Mark Hurst suggested whereby.com if anyone is looking for a more private and secure vid. conf. the free plan is limited, but the "pro" version is $10/month and seems like it gives enough to deal with all friends-and-families needs.

@fred (2:38): That sounds about right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm

@rw: I once saw a noise set where a guy brushed his teeth with a toothbrush connected to a bunch of effects

@Hubig you're moving to my end of the world, grew up just north of Glen Burnie (chuck roast lives there now). We are just outside of Annapolis now. If you have a choice where you live, the Crownsville/Annapolis area is better than closer to Baltimore and DC. Send me a contact invite if you like and I can fill you in on the area if you'd like it.
