Hi Kim, your great selections are welcome on a WFMU Sunday morning. My usual Sunday morning drill is WFMU on the headphones while making the weekly grocery run. Check y'all later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am
KimSorise:

Thanks for checking WR!

Well @DocJazz- my school is fully remote right now, except for me. I requested my that my most vulnerable learners be allowed to some to school and I work with them in a small pod of 5. We have taken over the entire library and they have online classes with one on one support with me. I also have about 50 other kiddos grade 5-12 that I check in with a few times a week.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am
KimSorise:

It makes me nervous as well - I am happy I have the privilege of teaching at a small K-12 school, so we have room to spread out for safety. But I do not expect our public schools will be back in person for some time. Congrats to your daughter!

Any insight into why this album is called Gemini II? There's no Gemini I, right? (I can't recall if the CD has any notes.)

The beloved Roy Brooks playing saw on that Belgrave cut.
Avatar 11:09am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am
KimSorise:

No, There is no Gemini I - not to sure actually. It was released in 1974with only 1000 copies. I wonder if was named after the Gemini space program in the mid 60s

Oh I know all too well, DocJazz & Jeff - it's the same face my students give me whenever I turn music on... which is daily.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am
fred:

I remember getting that Marcus Belgrave album at a show more than a decade ago. Carl Craig had put that show together, using his name to draw attention, but staying in the background for it. It was a great show, and I love that record
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am
KimSorise:

It is a gorgeous LP, Fred - This is a Detroit only planet E release done by Carl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am
KimSorise:

Jeez - I love Gato's tone... kills me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am
Doug Schulkind:

Kim, I watched the CREEM documentary the other day and was thinking of you. Detroit was such a killer scene on so many levels.
  11:21am
Dean:

Curiously, in a survey of then recent Tribe label/co-op releases in the Nov. '76 Cadence, Bob Rush refers to the album only as Gemini, despite there being a track titled "Gemini II." In 2004, Universal Sound released reissues of the record on LP and CD, both titled only Gemini.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am
doctorjazz:

Psyched, hopefully get to some outdoor live musicthis evening. Sex Mob are playing a Socially Isolated (separate tables, spaced, outdoors) in Marlboro NY). Will be driving one and a half hours each way for the show! (Better not rain...already missed 2 outdoor concerts I really wanted to see, Richard Thompson and Paquito D'Rivera, when they rained out and were rescheduled when I couldn't make it). Steamed shows just ain't the same...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am

Oh wow! I have been waiting to see that - Doug. Where was it released?

Juan Leone:

It took me a while to log on but I’m loving this.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am

@Dean: my copy is from 2005 (no obvious label name on it) and it clearly says Gemeni II (though the II on the artwork does look at if it was added later)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am

Universal Sound, @fred? Dig the cover for both the CD and LP, per Discogs: https://www.discogs.com/Marcus-Belgrave-Gemini/release/807489 A later reissue by Universal in 2008 is depicted by a different cover, same image, but with next adjacent.

@Dean: nope, it looks a bit like this one: www.discogs.com...
But is from 2005 and doesn't have the misspelling. Definitely doesn't look like a major release though, more like an upscale CDr
