Hello Sam. In the previous show we were reminded that deer are not really our friends. But in this show, I'm confident I can say that, horses are.
Avatar 10:11pm
Ike:

Is the cat who is sitting on top of my stereo causing that static, or is that a problem with your microphone, Sam?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
StringOFperils:

It's a short in the mic path somewhere....sounds like...crackly

I think I fixed the static issue. Thanks for pointing it out. Let me know if it comes back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
Sam Segal:

I'm tempted to blame the static on one of the cats...they've been very poorly behaved recently.

I once had a Lemonheads tee for, "Hate your Friends". It had tw small kids w/ guns. I had profs telll me not to wear it at school. Well, my mom, when I visiting home, threw it out (she did that to a lot of shirts she disapproved of.

I recommend Bojack, but it is sometimes rather bleak, but it packs in so many obscure cultural refences that only woofmooers would get the most....
Avatar 10:27pm
ifny:

I also don't really know what to do to brace, so I'm just going to put this link here and feel prepared. naturecoastradio.org...

As with many shows, Bojack Horseman takes a few episodes to get going, IMHO. Though maybe not as long as, say, Parks and Recreation, or The Good Place.

Avatar 10:36pm
northguineahills:

I agree w/ Ike: I slept on Bojack for years only watching a few episodes here and there. Then by the end of the first season, it really hooks you, and becomes awesome..

Coel went full Laurie Anderson. Only, Lou Reed's wife goes full Laurie Anderson (still happy I shared a few glasses of wine and convesation w/ her in 2006) *can you say star struck, if she sat next to you in a club that was playing experimental electonic music. I almost puked*
Avatar 10:36pm

Thanks northguinea...? If anything I think the robots are boned when it comes to geomagnetic storms :)
Avatar 10:37pm

didn't Noah coin hyperrealistic? (I believe he had another earlier comp w/ that term)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
Sam Segal:

I think he did, NGH.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm

Hmmm maybe that's why the reservation system crashed this morning, ifny, I didn't put my head on it's knees.

@ifny: I'm only good as a meme generator these days. I'm a damn old fogey kid! (I'll get off every else's lawn but Sam's (he's younger then I))
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
StringOFperils:

The term 'hyperrealism' itself, (not pertaining to music) is from the art world, in the 1970s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm

NY artist Chuck Close , for example

familiar w/ Close, but I believe Cresshevsky brought the term to music circles. He was in the art circles of Close, wojkiewitz, et al: en.wikipedia.org...

Huh. There ya go. Interesting, ngh. I don't think I was aware of Creshevsky before this week; I really like everything I've heard, here and on a couple of other shows within the last few days.

Avatar 10:52pm

I know chris speed. and mad props to tim berne (any jazz musician of any stature who came to FL in the 90s, I owe them my music tastes). Sam Rivers lived in Orlando, and used to curate many shows in the state.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm
Sam Segal:

Seeing Tim Berne in high school play in Minneapolis with a group called Buffalo Collision (which also included Minnesota-based drummer Dave King) was a formative live music experience for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm
Sam Segal:

To be clear, I was the one in high school. Not Tim Berne.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm
StringOFperils:

Still hearing a little envelope of (what sounds like) static periodically, Sam, not just on the mic. FYI. Solar ejecta?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
Sam Segal:

Thanks for the heads up. I'll try something that might fix it.
Avatar 11:00pm
northguineahills:

outside of bossa nova jazz (stan getz/gilberto), I used to go the the Jacksonville jazz fest every year in HS (think NPR jazz). Once, we took the food from a truck and pretended we were caterers to get in for free. Another year, we climbed down the seawall on the bank of the St John's River to get around the fence. Me and my friends were desperate for any culture.
Avatar 11:01pm

I've seen Susan Alcorn live, twice, only solo. Dayum, she's good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm

I saw her play once with Okkyung Lee. Incredible show.
Avatar 11:08pm
northguineahills:

I used to see Okkyung once a week for about 10 years. Love her music. She could be frosty at times, but always got me in for free at Tonic and the Stone. So, I have mad respect for her.

I think this link gives better perspective on the use of the term hyperrealism.
en.wikipedia.org...
Creshevsky is listed as a practitioner but not originator.

I too knew little to nothing about Creshevsky before this week. Pity.
