this is the theme to cannibal holocaust? crazy. I love horror flicks, but i've heard too much about real violence done to animals in that flick, so I've always avoided it.
  3:05pm
van:

Yeah what happened with Jim

Ahh...the soothing sounds of cannibal holocaust.

Cannibal Holocaust is definitely difficult to watch -- and not that great a movie, besides. But RIP, Riz.

Jim's entry for today has magically appeared in the archive, like an encyclopedia entry in the USSR.
  3:35pm
Robert:

I have a pocket medical dictionary that was done to, where the entry for "osteopathy" that had basically called it quackery was stickered over with an entry that was laudatory of it. It was a foil-backed sticker that light wouldn't come thru, and glued on really firmly. Between the printing of the book and its issuance (in 1975), MDs had made their deal with osteopaths.

Huh, my father got his DO in 1978.

Chris from DC:

Didn't watch a single down, never even turned on the TV.
  3:45pm
Robert:

What happened was that most of the remaining schools of osteopathic medicine expanded their teaching so that it came to include all of medicine, plus the osteopathy, while some schools remained traditional and were marginalized, and the rest had gone out of operation. I got that pocket dictionary as a freebie (promotional from a drug or equipment maker, IIRC) when I entered the Chicago Medical School in 1975.

It's kind of like what had happened with homeopaths much earlier, except they had a much bigger traditional faction. Chi. Med. itself had been founded as a homeopathic college.

Don't give a flying flapfuck about the Super Bowl but did the seahawks not create similar security state nightmares whereever they stayed? Just curious.
